Now this is a new thing. According to our German press friends, BMW has an all-new Sportboxer on the way for its 2016 line-up.
They reckon that the bike has 150bhp, is going to be powered by the firm’s 1200cc motor and will tip the scales at just 215kg.
The bike is aimed at the more sporty end of the market than would go for, say, the VFR800 – so this could be a direct competitor to something along the lines of the Suzuki GSX-S1000F that is now out. A higher-power, fairing-ed lightweight motorcycle dripping with traction control and all the other toys? Yes please."

Lovely bike but have to agree with Corvus, absolutely love my recently acquired Tuono, the only electronics is the fuel injection. Its as light as a feather, full fat sportsbike with upright riding position and wide flat bars, great brakes and suspension. Why does anyone need to spend £12/13 grand much of which is for technology that is not required.
Looks great, but it seems a shame to me that there is nothing out there like a modern version of my R11S - something big enough to be comfy for touring two-up, sporty enough to be fun in the mountains, and still luggage capable. The new R12RS is just way too bland in my mind. It's too small, and doesn't appear capable of sporting sensibly sized hard luggage.
Don't wet your pants yet. That picture is an old Wunderlich concept sketch by designer Nicolas Petit. It will follow the current 1200 WC engine and transmission layout. What we can be sure of is that the current generation twins will get a update before then or nearer to the time. Expect it to be delayed, maybe but at the moment this is a reaction tester. Maybe we will see the VVT twin making its debut in this form.
What you want is a boxer that reeks of torque and looks like 160mph before you even touch it. Good thing about these twins are that any tuning to them increase the torque nicely so it can be ridden by a lazy bugger quickly without the need to rev the engine to get anywhere. That said the S1000RR is very happy in 3rd in town, it has got that much torque at the back wheel. You'll need the traction electricatry (DTC) to keep the rear in check and ABS will be mandatory. Add in the 2D dash which is made possible with the CANBus system and there is scope to add all the switches you can wish for and customize the dash layout. Conventional forks with DDC. gear shift assist which even on a RT and GS makes perfect sense, cruise control etc.....
Never touched it, honest!
