Cat Weight and Ride Height

Anyone know how much weight you save if you change the exhaust system and remove the heavy catalytic convertor block? Also what is the best replacement exhaust that will still accept the lambda sensor thingy
(Remus, Staintune, Laser...)

Have a friend who may be interested in an S if we can give it a diet to bring the weight down.

Same friend may need a slightly lower ride, anyone used any lowered seats or managed to modify the suspension to lose an inch or so?

I didn't think the Cat weighed that much TBH - probably only save a kg or 2 by swapping it - the S is all very cleverly 'mass centralized' too round that area I've got the Remus 2->2 system and that has the probe in.

As for the seat, there was a lady up at Burton (Sorry - can't remember you name lass ) who had the seat cut right out to give the desired effect. I'm sure you could get a shorter shock. I was up in Wales the other day with some others and one very petite lady rider had a modified Hornet - her other half had simply drilled another hole in the standard shock and dropped the back right down + dropped the forks through the yokes - it was like a mini-moto!

As Jason says, junking the cat saves 2 kilos max. May I ask why the need for weight shaving because it's a VERY expensive hobby converting the S to svelte supermodel. If it's about confidence keeping the bike upright then saving a couple of kilos here and half a kilo there isn't going to make any difference, getting the height down to feel comfortable is much more important for short legged types.
What bike dio they have at the moment and what sort of riding do they do ?

Rider concerned used to ride an R1150R, but found the combination of height and weight difficult to manoeuvre when parking etc. She has also ridden a Ducati 748 in the US and various ZZR600s in different parts of the world. She has tried an F650CS (my old one in fact), but found it lacking in power (although the ride height and weight were fine)

I agree that getting the height issue sorted is probably the best way to go so cut down saddle would probably be the best option. As an aside has anyone played with slightly longer torque arms to lower the height that way - I know the usual reason for changing the torque arm is use a shorter one, to lift the rear and change the front end handling

Course we just found out that the K1200R has a low seat option - that put a grin on her face

It helped me quite a lot, although I would still like the bike to be a couple of inches lower to feel really comfortable. I had to stop suddenly for an idiot in a cage one Sunday, and due to the height and weight, the bike went over on me . It's something I simply couldn't prevent at the time.
