How does one get the blighters off, please?
There's the obvious screw to the right side - nae problem, but then it appears to be held by summit with a rubber cover on the left side and further forward. Has the screen or the entire fairing got to come off to access?
Thanks.

I've got a Haynes manual. Not sure how good it is yet but I'll have a look

Thanks Dave. I've ordered an official BMW service and repair manual from the States, but it's not a lot of good to me just yet.

You're either working a night shift or starting stupid early!

Night shift!!
OK here's what I've got a note to start with saying if the bike is equipped with the on board computer, the BMW diagnostic tester must be used to register the new instrument cluster with the central electronics unit and transfer mileage and service data and the instrument wiring should not be disconnected without first turning the ignition off and disconnecting the battery
The screen has to be removed but you do not need to remove fairing front panel
There's 1 screw on the right (as you're sitting on the bike)
Remove that screw and then the cluster sits on what appears to be 2 pegs and it just needs pulling off

(how my mind works at this time of the morning!! Then you can remove wiring connector
There's then 3 clips underneath you can remove to which hold the cluster to the mounting bracket
Hope that helps

Thanks for the intel. Dave. Once I'd figured the screen clips out the instrument binnacle was off in seconds. Impressively simple yet effective design. It was a bonus to realise that I didn't need to remove the bodywork to get to the battery (a la R11S)

I see I don't need to let you know about the clips. Just too impatient!!!! (I would be the same - 'cept I usually have bright ideas after beer!!!)
