Welsh Weekend 24/25 April 2015

Post by slparry »

Right all, been sorting this out with the hotel and they're holding the price to the same 49.95 again, however they did say at that level the Saturday night group dinner would have to become a fixed menu offering.

I didn't think that would be accepted so I asked them what surcharge there'd be for a multiple choice menu on the Saturday and the response was a very reasonable £5.95.

So the costs are
49.95 pppn dbb on Friday
49.95+5.95 pppn dbb Saturday
With a £12 surcharge for single occupancy

Steve and Julie, I've asked them to reserve your usual room in advance, let me know if that's ok

Oh and the hotel has changed policy so they ask for a £25 fee at booking time. This is not related to us but they've had a lot of no shows hence the changes.

As usual they ask that Saturday menu choices are made when booking in on the Friday

When you book just mention Steve Parry BMW Boxertrix weekend and if possible I'd appreciate it if you could post here with who and how many you've booked in

The phone number for The Wild Pheasant Hotel is 01978 860629

For those who've not been before and want to see what the hotel's like the website is:

Cheers

Thanks very much Steve, much appreciated, I presume I still need to call them to confirm?

we need to have a chat regarding the route, as you know, I think we (I) need to maybe offer something different to the last 10 years, maybe a castles themed route involving a lot fewer miles but more touristy time?
or perhaps a number of optional routes, such as a fast group, along the lines of previous runs, and a more sedate group for those who like to take things easier and don't like to cover so many miles , we could all meet at the same lunch point, but take different routes to get there?

This would potentially reduce the numbers in the peleton and make it a little more focused for those attending?

Of course this would require more leaders and tail enders but I don't see a problem with that, we have enough veterans who should be able to lend a hand.

Thoughts anyone?

Excellent idea, Steve - possibly the main reason I tend to shy away from coming on the Wales w/e is just the sheer number of us out on the road. Splitting things up would be a great (and sensible) way of making the ride-outs more sociable too, I feel. :)

Thanks guys, Although I have always had fantastic positive feedback from most of our attendees, there is always a number of alternative voices who would enjoy a different take on my routes, and all are fair comments...you can't please all the people all of the time, and we all take something different from our biking experiences, so for a group of 40+ bikes to universally enjoy a ride out is nigh on impossible, to such an extent that we have people rocking up on bikes and in cars just to enjoy the social gathering but perhaps not taking part in the riding aspect, this is something that I think offering an alternative route,or two lead by knowledgeable riders could enhance the experience for everyone.
We just need some ideas and volunteers please.

cheers

Llechwedd Slate Quarry is a great tourist spot, been a few years ago and it makes you realise how hard people worked in the past compared to us nowadays :)

Good idea Steve, yes you'll still need to confirm and depost :)

Actually by splitting the group into two it gives three choices as each can either go on group A ride focussed or group B tourist focussed or swap at lunch time to the alternative and get a bit of both?

The smaller groups would allow smaller coffee break venues, I've recently been impressed with the café over the bridge in Llanrwst and its sister venue The Ugly House

Meeting for lunch would depend on the route but I have previously spoken to the owner of The Ship, Aberdaron (which is a lovely seaside village) and he seemed keen, there are another 4 eateries in the village too
