How can I make my 1200S more tourer friendly?The pillion seat looks terrible.And are the luggage cases still available?

Ebay, Motorworks for BMW panniers (or you could ask at your local BMW dealer £££)

Alternatively - a decent tailpack (which projects out the sides too) a la "Bags Connection".

Another (not so pretty) method - Fix a smallish top box plate to your pillion pad.

I have one on my R-1. Givi topbox plate, bolted to a spare pillion pad (cheap off ebay) with a smallish top box fitted. Might look a bit shonky - but secure, dry, and easy to mount and remove.

It depends how much you want to take. Are you solo or with pillion? This photo is from last years France/Switzerland trip. I used a Bagster expanding tank bag and an expanding Ventura 15-35ltr tail pack. (it looks quite big on the back in this photo as I had strapped my textile trousers to it. It was very hot so was wearing jeans) the Ventura system is great solo as one can have the bag facing forward but still have rack space behind it. I have Helibars on mine as well.

German Ebay - luggage plate for R1200s - ugly but functional

I use a tailback, and tank bag which does for up to a week. I also have the panniers . Excellent fit and neat system but still bulky on the 1200s rear end.

I've made my own luggage thinghie.I took a mould from the pillion cover and made a fiberglass copy to which I attached a stainless steel welded frame that fits the subframe in the same way as the seat. What I'm looking for are the panniers because I want to go touring in company not solo.BMW probably asks an arm and a leg for theirs maybe there are alternatives?
The bike needs a bath,my path is very muddy from the recent rains...

The sport cases are superb if a little expensive, but if your gonna keep the bike they are a good investment. I've bought a set of inner bags from these people, I couldn't get on with the supplied "sacks"

Plus you'll need the pannier rails and bolt kit which is approx another £100+

They do crop up on ebay (rocking horse sh*t springs to mind) but people know there worth and the asking price usually reflects this.

1200 boxer, that's very clever. sort of thing that other members on the forum may be interested in paying for - can you do some more pics, unladen so we can see the effect 'naked' so to speak

Givi make a nice tank bag that clips onto an adaptor bolted to fuel cap. the tail pack is an old Oxford pack and I have a small back pack from Mavic (mtb back pack) that has a drink hose and room for all sorts of bits and bobs. I've just bought some Heli-bars from Dave H and they'll go on for the trips next year. tank range for me was about 260kms, after that, I really needed a stretch.. Oh and the touring screen which works pretty well..

The pillion cover is a fiberglass copy of the original.I used a small Givi rack and an Aldi tank bag.There's a steel frame epoxied to the underside of the pillion cover that has four studs that go through it to take the rack.The white bits are rubber pads bonded to the frame.It works well and the bag is expandable.I've done long trips at silly speeds and never had a worry.

I hope you didn't only produce one of these as I am sure there are a lot of us that would like to have this pillion cover!

If you could just supply them with mounts sticking out of the cover so we can use our own rack of choice.

Thanks guys.I couldn't bear to spoil the lines of the bike.My next project will be pannier frames to take soft side luggage.A mere look at the prices of the originals was enough for my mind to start working furiously on the design:))
I'll make them as elegant and unobtrusive as I possibly can.
