Satnav mount?

Apologies if this is posted in the wrong section. Can any recommend me a generic sat nav case for my 1100S, please? Something I can put my iPhone or Garmin (car unit) in to? Needs to be easy to mount on an 1100S.

I use one of these; a Givi S850.

It's really good and mounts on the steering plate. It makes it slightly more difficult to turn the key but it's not a major problem. It's got quite a bit of storage space in it too (as my satnav is really thin).

Only problem with using those fabric/pvc holders is - with the slightest amount of rain.... they mist up inside, and you can see hee-haw.

Just got a Ram mount from Telferizer, which screws into the top of the LH fork stanchion once you remove the plastic screw cap on the R1100S.
Excellent product and service from Bob Telfer.
He sent it to me after an email and said pay for it when I get the invoice in with the mount.

It's not that difficult to make your own. I bought a 12 mm aluminum bar that I bent using a heat gun. A good heat gun goes up to ca 600 deg. C, and aluminums melting point is 660 deg. C, so that's perfect.
Drilled a hole at the end and attached a neodymmagnet.
Then I superglued a washer on the back of my Sony xperia.
It works great!
Cell phone attaches in a second.

Ok, this bracket is on my K100. But i'm sure you get the idea. On my R11S I put the bracket on the screw that holds the right handlebar.

That's quite neat.

What do you do about powering the Xperia? Especially in the rain?

I've tried using a Brodit powered cradle with small spring tabs that interface with the Xperia exposed power connections. However the cradle isn't weatherproof (it's a car-specific item).

I've also found that using GPS and SatNav apps together is a huge battery drain so you NEED a power source for anything more than about an hour's journey.

I'm taking power from the outlet that sits (on the K100) in between the ignition coils.
1st electrical cord on the left in pic is an adapter from 24 V male to 12 V female connector. 2nd is a regular micro USB car charger.
If i'm on the freeway going fast, I leave it on. The fairing covers phone from the rain. But in town traffic I take it off and set the screen hibernation to 30 min.
My xperia Z is IP57 certified, but the USB cover needs to be on in order for the phone to be water resistant.

Yes, the GPS draws a lot of current. If i start out in the morning with a low battery it takes almost all day before the battery is fully charged. Lions share of the feeding current goes to the screen and most of the rest to the GPS.

Sidenote: if you're abroad and have your phone on roaming, the navigation mode also draws a lot of data traffic. I estimate it to 50 MB lasting about 2-3 hours.
I prefer to have the phone in map mode. In map mode 50 MB will last all day.

gets good reviews,
don't know if i could trust a washer glued on my phone and stuck on a magnet.
mine goes in the top box. no calls needed to i stop, just like in the car.
no earphones, no loud pipes so no ear plugs.

been caught by kids at the traffic lights in a car beside me, simging to myself. NOT good! tone deaf!! lol

At first I was afraid that the phone would fall off, so I always tethered it to the damping adjustment knob on the BCR, with the blue strap in pic above. Now I don't bother. If the phone didn't fall off on the roads in Romania (last years trip) or Serbia (this years trip) it simply doesn't fall off.

Below in pic is the bracket on my BCR. This is not rocket science. If you can drill two holes at the ends of a flat aluminum rod, then you can make this bracket. You need a slightly longer screw to hold the handlebar.

I've got the same that the previous owner bought. Really good place to mount a GoPro too!

Received all my bits through from Bob last week - very happy with it. The mount is well made and fits securely. Nicely adjustable too, so it's in line-of-sight.

I'm using it for my (car) Garmin Nuvi, and have subsequently tidied up the power lead, which I'm running back to the tankbag, and plugs in to a lighter socket from my accessory socket down near my left footpeg.

Total cost was £62 delivered.
