Final drive plug

Post by 1200boxer »

Ok I've finally got round to it and emptied the final drive on the 1200S.I was expecting the plug to have a magnet but there isn't one although it's recessed as if meant to have one there .The oil at 19000 kms is not bad.I was expecting something horrible but it's ok.A 10 mn job so far.

Update.Oil

240ccs of oil came out. This is certainly the amount put in at the factory because I bought the bike with 3000kms on.So is everyone sure about the 180ccs of oill that the final drive is supposed to take? It's quite a lot less than there was there!!

OK, what grease did you get after all. My supply has let me down. I am now looking at Molyslip AS60

I got SKF LGHB 2/0.4 high load water resistant grease. The guys there swear it'll do the job.I'm still hesitant.l'll drop by the BMW dealer tomorrow to get the torque arm nut and will beg for a spoonfull of their white stuff.

180cc is correct. There was a service bulletin from BMW on this.

Cheers

Yes - I changed mine in Agust 2013 and the oil seal's been weeping ever since (it was weeping oil before i changed the oil) and I've covered 15k miles since then - New oil seal going in this winter.
There would appear to be a surfeit of prolixity and sesquipedalian content today please do not use a big word when a singularly un-loquacious and diminutive linguistic expression will satisfactorily accomplish the contemporary necessity
