A Tenuous Biking Link, but Cool Anyway

Post by Grip Fast »

Guy Westgate, who taught Guy Martin to fly a glider, gave a demo at our club on Saturday evening. Glider aerobatics, with on-board fireworks. Brilliant madness!

Yeh, you should try it at least once. It's a whole different experience - not a gentle float around the sky in an unpowered aircraft, but an exhilarating ride through quite strong positive and negative G forces.

Being unpowered, the pilot has to convert height into enough speed for each manoeuvre, so it makes it a shorter flight than the gentle float round. But there is a lot of fun/excitement packed into a few minutes.

I saw Guy flying during the day and that was pretty exciting to watch, but I missed the fireworks flight in the evening :-( I imagine it looked brilliant from the ground. It would have looked amazing to anyone walking on the Dunstable Downs on Saturday evening. I wonder what they made of it...
