I still think it would be better if it was like Finland and was a % of your salary, let's face it £100 fine to someone on minimum wage has a far greater impact on someone than say a premier footballer

I think I'll make a concerted effort to become one of Cameron's friends.
He'll just tell me not to do it again.

The cynic in me thinks that as there are far fewer traffic officers on the road, and therefore far fewer fines imposed, is this just an attempt to bring the revenue back up?
This is an interesting quote from the bbc website this AM
RAC Foundation director Professor Stephen Glaister questioned the proposals.
He said: "People who break the law should bear the consequences but this seems such a wholesale change to the system so you have to ask what was going so badly wrong before.
"Ironically we know that speeding offences have declined over recent years and just last week the Department for Transport confirmed that, even after taking congestion out of the equation, recorded traffic speeds have been dropping for a decade on all types of roads."

At £10 000 for speeding, I can see the jails could become crowded - I couldn't pay that.

then they'd take your property from you, cast you into the street whereby you lose your voting rights and no longer bother the aristocracy

Take no prisoners .... Hamster showed on top gear some yearsa ago with a TVR that speed cameras cannot 'see' cars doing 170+ mph. I have now a de-restricted car that will top 187 mph. If they want £10k from me I will be sure to get my monies worth
