Ive got a sort of dry grating noise coming from the front pulley area of the engine. The tone does go up and down with revs of the engine just like worn bearing would sound ...

Anybody had this problem ?

I would be checking my engine oil level first and eliminating oil pump noise. Remove plastic front cover from engine and check poly vee belt and pulleys next.

Hi
I would check condition of the v belt first. Also check tension. It is also not unusual for small pieces of stone/grit to find its way in behind the plastic cover. If all is well with those then check alternator for rough running/bearings. Also bearing in front engine cover housing.
Good luck
Gus

So is it the alternator that is making the noise?

Alternator is silent all the noise is coming from behind the front engine panel at the bottom !

Surely if the crank bearing is fecked at the front you would have engine oil leakage from the seal??

Had left and right upgrade cam tensioner done, startup clatter of BCR disappeared. A terrible metallic rattle had me worrying  turned out top under seat stainless Lazer bracket had broken…amazing how sound travels.

Which tensioner did you upgrade ? is the front chain and tensioner ok?
As a matter of interest I'm curious about the front bearing mentioned in this thread, I'm not aware (so far) of any bearing in the front casing. (other than the front main (plain) crankshaft bearing. :?

I don't think there is a bearing in the front !! I'm going to a bm shop next week for a second opinion .
