:?: Hi - I have recently acquired an 04 BCR and wonder whether its OK to use Castrol Magnatec oil in it - as I used to use it in my Guzzi 1100 Sport?

If not, what other engine oil is receommended?

Cheers

Yep - I have used Magnatec in mine and in my GS. That's wat Park West recommended when I had it dealer serviced

tbh I usually run Mobil 1 after 12k but am giving the Halfords Fully Synth a go cos I got 2 for the price of 1.

Mine is a 20k miler and when I had the head off at Christmas you could see the honing in the bores as if it were done yesterday.

I personally didn't think Magnatec was much good (even though it is perfectly adequate in oil rating) and gave a more buzzy feel compared to the more expensive silkolene semi synthetic (Sport 4?) I used prior to that.

I"m still using Castrol GPS in the Rockster - seems to be working ok although I've not had the heads off myself.

how many miles has the bike done.
if under 10K that more or less any G4 or G5 spec. 20/50 will do.
more than 10K start using synth
Bern.

Engine Oil

:D Many thanks for all the suggestions. My BCR has only done 1700 miles so far - so I will stick to semi synthetic for the time being. Incidentally - I was surprised to find it used c 500ml oil in c 300 miles (fairly brisk speed) - I have heard these engines do use a bit of oil - but does it slow down as it gets some miles on the clock? Plus how sensitive is the oil level (i.e if you overfill it above the sight glass) ? - as I am used to a dip stick I find it hit and miss topping it up just to the top of the glass and no more.

Cheers

I am on my 3rd S and had a GS beforehand.
I think the engines hide oil so the readings can look low.

They sometimes use a lot of oil like you say, then stop, and then start using it. Funny old things!

Personally, I'd stick with a good semi-synth oil and change it every 3000 miles. Fully synthetic is hardly worth it in a bike that doesn't spend much time above 6-7000rpm.

My first 1100R ran great on Castrol GPS for 30+k miles and had stopped using oil by that time and ran sweet as a nut. I then put some Castrol RS (f/synth) in and it began using oil again. Didn't make a blind bit of difference to the bike's running either.
