EVO ABS Total Failure! What caused it??????

Post by minivin »

Got a problem (again) with the EVO ABS, 2002 model so it's the EVO II with the electronic servo's.

The brake fail light lit this morning and I have lost the sevo assist which makes the brakes decidedly dangerous as it's nearly back to the handlebars.

Both front and rear systems have gone, I've looked through the manual and can't find anything obvious about a common fuse for both circuits.

Any idea what has caused this?

well I now know!!!!

just slackened off the unions on the rear brake ready to think about
making and fitting some shorting-pipes, when I thought I would chase a
misterious wire that went behind the brake pedal "ah, that'll be going
to the neutral switch or something......"

ummmm...... no! that be to the icklist, tinyest micro switch for the
rear brake, on me back looking up now playing with it and I think
"that plunger aint moving much, in fact it aint even clicking".

A little bit of WD40 and applying of the peddle, turn the ignition on
and the ABS and Servo's kick back in and work! even a brake light!!!!!

truely stunning technology, brakes partially failed due to a sticky
brake light switch, I'm amazed :oD

Thats why i wouldnt have ABS.You get used to the system and maybe even trust it a bit to much when braking. Then a couple of quid micro switch packs up and leaves you with less braking force than you need.As was discussed in an earlier post awhile back, there are pros and cons with ABS.I just couldnt rely on the electronics enough to make me feel in total control.
