... the K12GT has let me down
Last night it died on Wrexham bypass which in the dark was a bit scary. I sat on the bike with the hazards on while walking it backwards a hundred yards or so to a layby
After a while it decided to restart, but revs stuck at 8000 rpm which made the ride home interesting, especially pulling out of junctions at 8k revs.
Eventually got home, shoved it on the GS911 to find a host of faults logged.
Tried resetting things on the bikes system etc but it still wouldnt tickover normally.
BMW recovery took it to the dealers today and they've called to say they've not stripped it yet but it looks like either the idle control or the throttle bodies

Sorry to hear about the let down, though it sounds like it would be on R11S some throttle cable hairing up, getting stuck or something due increased moisture/cold/wear etc.
Stealers would say something dramatic in a first place to be certain they can comfort you afterwards and take credit for a "cheap" fix up...
Keep your chin up! and fewer pies ! (does help, when need to push the bike)

Steve, you are having some bad luck with that bike, was the tacho just stuck at 8k or did you actually ride it home engine spinning at 8K? that to me sounds incredible, but it would cos I only ride lumpy twins
Riding a bike at this time of year also sounds incredible
Keep us posted on the fix.

Had a ZZR600 once and the throttle cable snapped between Inverness and Fort Augustus. I wound up the manual tickover (carbs) to about 7,500 rpm and rode it back to base at Fort William. That was interesting to say the least ,the only way to regulate the speed was by using the kill switch in traffic or slow moving traffic,as for bends with no way of slowing
Anyway I picked up a bicycle inner cable and botched up a repair that got me home.

WOOOOOO HOOOOOOO ....
my emails to BMW's DE CEO, UK MD and all downstream had a positive result. They've agreed with me that a TB is indeed the modern incarnation of a carburettor and are covering the replacement throttle body bank!!!

Good news.
As far as I can tell BMW UK tend to be pretty good about these things when you go direct, the problems seem to come when there is a dealer acting in the middle.
Or maybe they are aware of your reputation as a rabble rouser on the other side and are frightened of you?

I did wonder at the terminology, and even looked up the definition of "carburettor" just in case.slparry wrote:WOOOOOO HOOOOOOO ....

I've considered an 11x0RT but as I've already got an S I figured it would be no benefit reallly.GRAgusta wrote:Ever thought about swapping it for a standard R1100S ?????
The K is such an awesome touring package, with performance levels up there with the loopy sports bikes, which is why I really like it, sadly it's been let down by BMW's mid noughties quality control, given the extensive list of new parts it's had and from what I read in the warranty book just about everything else is now covered .... I hope
