My R1150RS has a remus titanium endcan and what I assume is a custom collector box and standard downpipes, will this be producing improvents over standard or is it just bling?
My main question:
How big does the collector box need to be (shape and volume)?
Mine looks similar to a small car box, but it has a dent on the underside where the centrestand hits it. Ideally I'd prefer a smaller, thiner item that the stand doesn't hit.

Is that collector box not the catalyst? It is on the 1100S.
If so, a lot of people on here (with R1100S's) have removed the cat and just replaced it with a Y piece with no dramas - no box required.
A Y piece for an RS might take some finding, though.

Hi Manfred, on the 1150RS the OE exhaust is an integrated all in one unit so the endcan is welded to the catalyst box, which in turn attaches to the headers. BUT the headers have already been joined by then, so there's actually only one (large) pipe into the exhaust and no Y-piece as such.
So the Remus replacement (say) has a collector box (not a Y-piece) and a separate end can which you bolt on. See Motorworks for R1150RS Remus exhaust: http://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop/ ... 5_30_JA_30.
So you may be able to source a new collector box if that's what you need. No ideas on specs though.
I fitted a Remus and had the same problem as you; but by slackening ALL the bolts including those fixing the end can to its hanger, and fiddling you can get the centre stand to miss the balance box, so it's worth a half hour grovel... When I fitted the Remus I realised what a clever design the OE effort is - but I doubt you can get one without a catalyst, so it costs megabucks.

Yep, thats the collector I've got.
Currently the dent across the bottom of the box is about an inch deep - so must have been doing it for a while.
Going by the Remus bumpff, the size of the collector is important.
Pity, a simple tube with flattened area around the stand cross-strut area would be tidier.
May have to look into replacing the stand cross-strut with a 'c' shaped one welded to the front of the legs.

If I recall (I sold my RS some months ago), the dent is actually as fabricated - rustic but effective so long as you can line it up OK. I had a good look when it first went on. Have a twiddle - there is a sweet spot if you can find it.
They must have retained the balance 'box' for a reason (cost down & all that), although surely all it goes is absorb the shock from the exhaust wave, if any. Like the 100RS & RT exhaust balance box. But for the airheads, Keihan have give up with the pattern balance box they used to make, and have condensed it to a simple H piece; I dunno!
