After reading the title and first few lines, I had a whole range of recommendations for you. However, on reading further I realised that you were after a different kind of stripper altogether

So, in order to do that single malt some justice; fire up the log burner, pour yourself a large dram, sit back in a comfy arm chair with your feet up - and send the parts off to someone else.
You know it makes sense! :D

Nitromors Is your friend here.
Splosh it on and scrub it off with a stiff brush.

Fine sanding disk/pad/brush and an angle grinder

and that IS how I did mine  actually gave quite a good even finish if you were of the polishing mind

Nitromores and ally do not mix well.

Get a specific stripper for ally or just Vapor blast which is a really nice finish for ally.

Then spray with clear lacquer it will be a finish that you will be impressed with.

I had mine bead blasted to get rid of the paint in the most inaccessible places. The surface finish is rough as manufactured so a fair bit of polishing is going to happen. I painted mine by the way.
