What an numnut

Few years ago I got a slow puncture at a Hopp rider training day at Cadwell Park. Kept blowing it up for each session until it went down too quickly.
Scrounged a 180 scrubbed but legal tyre from the race school there and fitted it for the ride home and put the 170 which was nearly new around my waist for the ride.
The handling felt ok but didn't push it and soon after I was given an advisory at the mot test for an oversized tyre.
Maybe an insurance claim would be refused with a 180 on the narrow rim, maybe not, but worth a thought.

I've had ContiMotions on my K12GT which has in excess of 150 odd hp and is a heavy bike compared to the BCR. The Conti's lasted my normal 4000 miles and were fine to be honest, wet and dry.

In 40 years of riding I've never had more than 4000 miles from a rear tyre (I ride a tad agressively), except a hideous nylon Yokohama on the front of my CB125S in the mid 70's
so 4k miles is as good as I normally get
On the K I've had Metz Z6 (oem tyre), Avon Storm ST's and ContiMotions. Currently back on Avons but only 'cos I had a few more pennies available when I needed them and M&P were'nt doing the deals on the Contis.
On my Funduro I have TKC80 Twinduros, and on the BCR I have Conti Road Attacks
I like Conti's they seem to handle all I chuck at them

I got around to 6000 miles out of the rear Dunlop roadsmart on my 12s. As a comparison I got 1800 from the Metz M1 and I think about 3200 from the M3. (I will have to check my records for exact mileages).
I consider myself to be very smooth but brisk rather than aggressive. My rear is scrubbed all the way to the edge and the performance in the wet is simply astounding.
It was a ride through Grossglockner in torrential rain that taught me how far these tyres can be pushed in the wet.

Yeah - those M1 tyres were unspectacular in every aspect.............. other than tyre wear.

I think the last time I recommended the ContiMotions a few here tried them and liked them, I'd certainly trust them a darn sight more than the, nowadays, more expensive Cheng Shin Maxxis offerings

Metzeler Tourance and Tourance "Next" - each exceptional tyres for grip and longevity.
Can't say the same for their road tyres, unfortunately - although I think Seamus was a big fan of the Metz M1.

Out of those I'd personally not bother and would go for the ContiMotionsBMbler wrote:holy thread resurrection (before Friday)
Still looking for input, though I have before 12:00 tomorrow to order tyres to get them here for Monday
Priorities:
1- good mileage (else I'll go back to Conti R Attacks or Mich Pilot Power 1)
2-decent grip in cold and wet (Dunlop 208RR taught me not to touch that sort of pile of S^$%t )
Choices(today):
Mich Pilot Road
Metzeller Z6
Bridgestone BT57
and if you can not read my mind- I might go berserk with Malayan Cuisine (Maxis)![]()
Anymore ideas?
Thanks!
(Edit)- pairs 120/70; 170/60 under 160 British notes
also(one more stick in a wheel) from experience- I loved change over 120/70 to 110/80 on the other bike, anyone had done the same on R11's?

Aren't tacky sports tyres false economy? More expensive touring tyres with a harder centre and softer shoulders handle as well and last a lot longer (long enough to justify the extra price?).....
Pilot Road 3's are awesome, but cost quite a bit.
My K has done 6k and there's pleanty left on the rear, although it is a bit square now. It'll do another 2/3k I think.

Best mileage so far on any bike iv,e had have been on pilot road 3s but even with those if you stand the bike up and give it some you will rip through the middle section especially with shaft drive, any way the fun is had in the corners not when your,e bolt upright, riding that way I get pretty good mileage
