Why don't all bikes come with heated grips.

Because a large percentage of bikers never go out in colder weather?

Would a bit of wiring and a switch eat into their profits that much.
You can buy decent aftermarket one's for less than £50.
So what's the cost to produce.
£5 - £10 ?

And a large precentage probably do.
I just think riding is so much safer when you can actually feel your fingers.

On the subject of heated gloves and the like..

Has anyone ever had goretex gloves leaking due to heated grips?? Or is it another myth?

Now, this may be slightly contentious, but has anyone fitted handguards to an S to keep the wind off? I don't like muffs. Well, thats not strictly true, but I digress ;)

Yes, I have, I just don't use them in the rain anymore.

Fair enough.

I understand how it would be the case in theory, but the in practice bit was puzzling me:)

Well they came as OE on the 11s which is a sports/tourer but I had to fit my own on the Honda which is billed as an out-and-out 'sports' bike and, consequently, not the place I'd expect to find these 'winter' aids as OE.

I like to get out on those cold, bright winter days myself so I fitted these:

eBay item number:
231032049953

With four discernible settings and a cut-off when the battery's not being charged I find they work really well. However, (if you wear ordinary separate fingered gloves) unless your sat behind a nice big fairing, heated grips are always going to be fighting a losing battle.

Nick.

K1200GT - Heated grips, big fairing and heated seats. 8) 8)

Winter solved!

(unless you drop it on some ice, then you have to pick up nearly 300kg of bike!)

If I dropped a bike that heavy I'd call a cab.

Big furry black muffs, that's what you need.

Once you've stuck your hands in a furry black muff, you never look back :)
