I suppose I should introduce myself.

My name is Scott and I love twins, especially BMW twins.

Bikes in the garage include:






Although a newer Triple Black has also joined the GS above.

So far, I'm very pleased with the R1200S - just need to set up the Ohlins for my weight, around 100-105KG, and enquire about the software upgrade.

Fingers crossed it will be a long and happy relationship.

Coming back to a more sporty riding position after years on a GS has been much easier with the R1200S.

I tried a few of the latest sportsbikes for size - but felt like I couldn't fit on them, and I hated taking our Fireblade and even the CBR600FX for short rides, as I couldn't get comfortable on them. The R12S is just right size wise and not too cramped - a bit more power wouldn't go amiss, but I love the character of the BMW twin engine, so I can forgive it a lot.

More power is nice, but its also fine to have a bike you can use all the available poke on without having electronics kick in or the arse coming round to meet you, You'll probably end with a faster average on the S because they're so good for real world riding

I'd be much quicker on a 600 to be honest - but I much prefer riding a twin. I am much quicker than the vast majority of sportsbike riders on my local roads on the GS, and was much much quicker on a sportsbike, having both a Fireblade and CBR to play on. It is just a bit more enjoyable getting as much out of a BMW twin and overtaking sportsbike riders who think they are fast (a few of them are mind and then BMW's are no match), especially when you leave the top-box on

The local "open" roads have no blanket speed limit, so there is more opportunity to use higher revs for extended periods - the GS was just that little bit slower than I wanted (I felt like I needed another 10mph or so). The benefit of the R12S is that it should handle better, once set up. At present I can push the GS harder as I know how it reacts and I am comfortable with it moving around - the rear on the R12S needs setting up properly, as I'm not happy with the feel and movement from it on the bumpier corners.

I would say that if I was travelling for more than an hour or two, then the GS would always be the choice - it's not much slower (faster on some roads types) and always more comfortable - plus two up the GS is not that much slower, whereas the R12S is effected quite badly when you add a pillion.

I'm looking forward to a lot more time on the R12S and I think TT week 2014 on the IOM is going to be amazing, especially if the weather from this year is repeated

I'm not sure I'll have any spare room next year - but if I move house, sure why not.

Always happen to meet up if you are over in any case.

I'll be taking the GS to Silverstone for the Moto GP, as I'm not sure I'll appreciate anything more than laps of the course on the R12S for a few months.

We have 7 BMW twins - not sure how that works an odd number of twins - hmm

Very happy to say we are adding yet another BMW twin to the fold - so early next week we will have another R1200S Sport on the island. Looks like TT 2014 is going to be a very good year for BMW after all
