I have just removed the forks for a refurb as the seals are weeping and was going to respray the usual bits and was also thinking of doing the middle brace but not sure how easy it is to remove. Is it a ball joint like a car and you can shock it out with a tap from a hammer or is that too easy?

Do you mean the fork brace, or the telelever arm?
All you need to separate the two is a hex key in the top of the ball joint, and preferable a ring spanner to loosen it off. If you want to remove the ball joint completely, you need heat (120 degrees).
I just masked off the ball joint when I painted the brace. The telelever is relatively easy to remove, as it's just 'swinging' on bolts that are accessed no problem

Thanks for the info, I just want to remove the brace to grit blast and repaint it along with the bottom of the forks, I also had to remove the dust seal as it wouldn`t fit through the fork brace, seems strange as I don`t recall having to do that on other bikes.

I'm sure I saw them mentioned in the maintenance schedule ages ago (inspection around 60k miles?)but I've just looked and can't find anything now ...... My bike definitely feels a bit weird at the moment , so in the next week or so if the bike finally reaches 100k miles I may treat it to some front end tlc...oyster wrote:Anyone ever heard of a telelever bearing problem? Anyone ever had to change one? or two?
