Sigh ......

My K1200GT ......
so after my recently having to have a complete new instrument console fitted .... which I think was about £1200 (due to the trip meter failing)
and previous warranty replacements have been ....
rear ESA £1800
lh switchgear £330
main stand £100
2 ASC replacements @ £80 each
New clutch assy @ .. god knows
New cam chain tensioner @ god knows
Cam chain guide
rear drive assy
airbox assy
steering dampener
BMW Navigator
pillion heated seat switch
engine loom replacement to cure hot start probs
and probably a few items I've missed
It's now decided that the ABS pump should go west .... about £1400 I believe? Good news is I have full working brakes just no ABS function.
It's a common problem, apparently the brushes in the motor go on the piss and get stuck in their holder, there is an excellent video on Youtube showing how to drill the rivets out of the sealed unit and fix the brushes. Had I not on the extended warranty I'd be doing just that but as it's on the extended warranty they can give me a new one
In fact from my known list of things that go wrong on the new K's the only thing that's so far been ok has been ... touch wood.... the ball joint and the fuel strip.
I do have a slighty warped disk on the front but that can wait as it's not too bad at present.
Part of me says enough ... get rid of it.... while another part says .... you've almost got to the sweet spot where it's all been sorted. I must admit it's a gorgeous thing to ride. Incredibly fast, smooth, excellent handling and wonderful road prescence. It'll do up to 300 miles on 1 tank of fuel if you're careful, and makes 500 mile days effortless, and the scalded cat acceleration is intoxicating
I really cannot think of what to replace it with if I did change it. Pans don't light my fires, I quite like the FJR1300's I guess, test rode a GTR 1400 and just didn't like it for some reason, it just didn't feel sorted ridewise. Perhaps I've got too used to BMW's duolever on the K and the telelever on the 'Cup. I fancy an RT but I'd just be potentially trading similar issues and gain less performance for my trouble.
I'd previously considered changing the 'Cup to perhaps an R1200S or maybe a KTM RC8 but changing the K presents me with a challenge for what to replace it with ..... I had a K1600GT last your, while my k was being serviced or worked on, that was awesome and I'd have one of those in a heartbeat, however I've not got K1600GT pennies floating around
... K1300GT well it's too close to what I've got... and I could just be continuing the issues.
I guess I'm just praying that I'm now approaching the end of the warranty failures ...... here's hoping .....
I may even use the K on the Welsh Weekend for a change so please feel free to tell it it's being naughty if you see it
edit to add the engine loom as I'd forgotten about that one
