here's a weird one

set off for a spin the other day (first this year and before i fitted the new throttle adaptor) and the twist grip was stiff enough to mean i had to make an effort to twist it back to closed. not insurmaountable but enough to hold it open if i let go of the grip. went back home, took the cable cover off, gave it a twist and all was ok. put it back together, got down the road and it's stiff again. go home for a second time, cover off, spray inside all over the cable liberally with silicone and it's all ok. set off and 'again' it's stiff. getting bored now, so carried on with my ride and just put up with it. had been out for about an hour and stopped for a cup of tea. started the bike and the throttle is fine, get up the road a bit and it's stiff again. what's going on!!! so, mulling it around in my tiny mind i think; i've had the heated grips on all morning and turning them off with the ignition is the only difference between a smooth or stiff throttle. i set off again but this time turn the grips off and 'hey presto' a few minutes later the throttle is fine again. what must be happening is that the heated element is expanding the grip against the bar and and causing it to partially 'grip' the bar itself. anyone ever heard of such a thing? standard BMW grips BTW.

actually yes I have heard of heated grips acting exactly as you describe, I seem to recall R1100RS and RT models having replacement bars as a recall because of such issue

That was cruise controll on my R1150RT! ;)

I put a thin washer on the end weight to cure it.

When I bought my 12 Steve that was almost a selling point!!!! Heated grips on max and after a short while cruise control, must admit its a bit disconcerting the first time it happens but on the recent Welsh trip I used it to my advantage when covering the boring M5 from Bridgwater to Bristol, only happens when on max so no 1 setting is ok.
