Hi All,My Back tyre is Squared off,and feels strange around bends,so i think i will change them,my Bike is a R 1100 S (2003) it has Pirelli Diablo's on at the moment,I'm not a Boy Racer,i just ride at weekends,and do a bit of touring, Any idea's what to get next ?

This could go on and on, I run mine on Bridgestone 021`s at the moment but I think they are no more so I will probably be watching this post develope.

Lots of good tyres and everyone will have a different opinion. My 1200 is currently on Dunlop Roadsmarts which are amazing. 5000 miles in and the front still looks new. The rear is just starting to square off. Probably get to 7 before I change.

Basically, whatever branded tyres you can find at a good price.

I've ended up with Maxxis on mine, but only because nobody had a branded tyre on the shelf when I needed it. (Bloody silly rear tyre size!)

My default choice for a good few years now has been the Continental Road Attack. They're very good value and last ages, as they have very deep tread.

I'll more than likely stick a pair on mine before we go touring this summer.

How did you get on with the maxxis or is that a silly question as you say you will go back to conti`s. Maxxis seem a good price thats all and I have them on my Baghira and they seem ok albeit a totally different style to the 11.

The Maxxis is fine, but they wear far too quickly.

PS Roadsmarts, Road Attacks, SportsMax, All good. But as I've said before, best make up your own mind on your own budget & riding style. There is very little out there these days that is truly sh1t3.

Michelin Pilot Road 2 for a good compromise between mileage and grip and a better price than PR3. Bridgestone 023, if it is good enough for Ron Haslam then it is good enough for me. All of the above, it is down to price and preference unless you want a race tyre for the road then it would be Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa.

I had several pairs of Diablos and loved them, but they are very very stiff carcasses and my fillings were coming loose!
All the manufacturers quote 2.5, 2.9 bar (39, 42 psi) as a staring point, however as your tyres warm eh pressure rises and the over-inflation causes wear accelerate.
Try 2-5 psi less, even in bimble mode you will feel the difference, and see it in the shape of the worn tyre.

36/42 for me it works.
Reduced pressures are for track work when the extra stress put on the tyres causes them to heat up more so they get up to correct pressure when being pushed to the limit, no one pushes their tyres hard enough on the road to run at track pressure, they will never get up to temperature,

You may think it looks good when parked to have tyres scuffed to the edges but does s0d all for handling or tyre life

You will see many power rangers on a sunday at any biker haunt in the uk all oooing and arrrring at their chewed tyres but if you come accross them on the road in the twisties they will be in your bl00dy way

I'm a novice and have only just got my R11 and it is worlds apart from my gpz500, the new bike has Dunlop at the moment and both are less than 2 years old according to the date stamp and have 3mm or so left on them so I won't be changing yet, but, when I do it I would like to get something grippy rather than hard and high mileage. Any thoughts?

Unless you're doing trackdays and taking lumps out of the cylinder heads I'd just stick with the latest crop of sports-touring tyres ie Michelin PR2/3, Dunlop Roadsmart 2 etc etc.

As Tanneman said PR2s are as good as anything for general use. I swapped to them from Bridgestones and they seem to make the bike turn in quicker. So they get my vote.
Others will have different opinions. As always tyres are down to personal choice.
