Just read your post Dai, and didn't want to hijack the thread.
Our renewal has just come through from Auntie Carol (Nash)
Both bikes comp with protected ncd full euro breakdown & DNA water,
Karens F800r £126
my 12s £146
both of us happy with that, so much so I didn't bother looking anywhere else, paid for it last night.

I've just done my insurance - didn't take the Carole Nash renewal, but went online and took out a new policy.
Got my 11S, VFR750 and Duke 750SS insured for £158, fully comp.

Sounds a cracking deal. I eventually insured the GS and the RS for £180 the pair fully comp inccluding £25 legal cover, with Swintons at the end of December. Took forever, and includes a recovery package I don't need.

I've just renewed with Bennetts. Fully comp, Value-£3000.00, Excess £150.00 for a total of £109.34 which includes £14.99 optional extra legal cover and bike kept at a different location.

After listening to 'Money Box' on Radio 4 (I know, I know

) 3 months ago where they exposed the 'Automatic Renewel' scam, I phoned Bennetts and told them to remove it from my details on their computer. This meant that they had to post a reminder to me which gave me a chance to negotiate a reasonable price come renewal time. Seems to have worked.

You don`t know if it is a good deal until you claim.Hopefully you never find out.

Absolutely right!
As always in these threads there seems to be an assumption that all insurance companies are as good and reliable as each other and it is just the price that is relevant!!

In life I do believe that you get what you pay for......
BUT with insurance (car and Bike) I must have paid probably more than £20k to insurance companies and have had NOTHING BACK. I have been driving for 23 year (Christ I sound like and old moan!!) and never had to make a claim and its 15 on 2 wheels the same.
So for me I pay as little as I can legally get away with as I don't plan on making a claim.
Yes it will probably be a PITA should I need to make a claim but ill cross that bridge when I come to it!!
And they say Scot folk are tight.....I don't know where they got that assumption from

But that's the wierd thing - Bennets eventually quoted me £30 less for the same policy with the same insurer (Aviva) as Devitt.
Defo agree with the principle though - there's no point in paying a bean if the insurer doesn't pay out...
Bikes are cheaper than dogs though - coming up for renewal at £240 or thereabouts for a year each

so we're debating whether to self-insure...

Got a Carole Nash rider policy and it's fairly good. When i had the misfortune to claim from them, they were excellent.

Sad but true. To me, motor vehicle insurance is a neccessary evil. A legal requirement that forces me to throw cash at a commercial company in exchange for some vague, ill-defined, weasaly constructed guarantee is never going to engender confidence. It seems to be the case that companies can only be judged on the subjective reports of individual customers (at their moment of greatest need) where-as what we need is an industy-wide over-view, by an independant body, where vendors have been stress tested and the results made public. Other than 'Which Magazine' performing this service I can't see that happening any time soon. It may be that some motor(cycle)ing mag has performed this service and it slipped under my radar so, as always, I'll welcome correction.
