ACU Road Rally

I'm toying with having a go this year but the rally website doesn't quite have enough info... It would be nice to know where likely start and finish points are, and to make the time do you have to roar round like a maniac? For instance 200 miles in 9 hours riding suggests not, but if the average speed is a bit over 20mph, what's the catch?

Anyone done it and any thoughts / recommendations?

Well ta vm Harry - a useful start. The wife will go bonkers if I'm off for a whole 20 hours-odd, so I was having a look at the 200 mile / 10 hour mostly daylight effort. Means I have the Sunday free for some gentle chainsawing or summat.

I suppose I could be talked into the numb bum special though...

Agree with the riding in the middle of the night. Came back from visiting a friend in Dumfries about middle of May - set off about 1am with a clear sky. Done about 140 miles. was absolutely brilliant and I was on such a high when I got home. For North East riders, the Boundary 500 Motorcycle Group do a sponsored ride covering 500 miles in a day with proceeds going to The North East Air Ambulance - thats another good day out with not too many dual carriage ways

Well i'll probably be on the 1150RS rather than the GS for a long bash, although the PO fitted some serious driving lights to the GS so it's good after dark. I'll hedge and put BMW R1150 on the form...

Agree on the romance of a truly late night run, although I've had some fabulous daylight runs off the beaten track / out of hours.

What with juggling the Usual Disaster (house, garden, wife, children, dogs) I suspect I'll have to save up the Triple for retirement, but the National definitely sounds worth a crack, and I'll see how it goes.

Decision!
