Personaly I always 'nod' anybody on powered two wheels; fellow bikers, scooters, even police motorcyclist and, (especialy) learner (L) riders. But I may have gone too far yesterday. Riding into the sun, it wasn't until we were abreast that I realised I'd 'noded' a bloke cutting the verge on a ride-on mower.

Not scooters (or ride-on lawnmowers)

Its always nice to `nod` to fellow bikers, its a community spirit type thing.

its become a habit with me, although embarrassing nodding to fellow bikers and wondering why they do not nod back moments before you remember your in the car..

everyone on two wheels apart from cyclists! I make a particular point in nodding to bike police with mixed results. Never had a nod back from a Harley that I can remember

I remember in France passing slowly through a small town where there were 3 French bike cops leaning against their bikes having a fag break (you know the type, blue short sleeve shirt and jodphurs) A nod as we passed brought 3 smart salutes...and, no they didn't stop us just up the road.

Generally don't nod scooters, although perhaps I should. Thank you wave to wave to drivers who make some room when filtering, so long as it doesn't mean wobbling into the next wagon down .

Always wave Harleys - one day one will weaken and twitch in response...

On the community thing, one of the things which got me into bikes long term was on my trusty Honda CD175, being greeted with a huge wave and broad grin from a pair on something huge and serious, which at that stage I could only aspire to. Bikes, like dogs, seem to be a great leveller.

I nod or wave to: Scooters, learners, mopeds, in fact most powered two wheelers except Goldwings because I have found thet they are so they only wave to other Goldwing club members.

Yep, all powered two wheelers, regardless of make, At least it proves I'm not a motorcycle 'racist', and if they don't reply with a wave or nod, then I'm still the better person
I def make a point of thanking drivers who move over when filtering, But a lot of other drivers get a 'special' wave

I say, always but always give a 'learner' a 'nod'. They are the future of our sport/pastime/hobby. In a climate of increasing legislation designed to discourage youngsters from taking up biking the least we can do is give a sign of encouragement to those kids (usualy) who persevere. It's the merest movement of the noggin to us but to that kid with the 'L' plates, acknowledgment from a rider on a big F*** Off sports bike is really going to make his/her day and is confirmation that they're not alone and are part of the this great community of bikers.

I nod to other bikes, not that many commute at this time of year, and I generally get a response. Recently I've noticed that I'm ignored by the adventure BMW's.
I see the same two every few days or so, both totally ignore me.
Filtering , I give a wave whenever I can, especially if someone has moved out of the way to let me through.

I've always found the same Steve - most folk nod back (even those on Harleys) but I can pretty much guarantee that there'll be a 100% non-return of the nod from GS-ists.

I find it's usually the BMW riders that ignore you. Miserable old gits.

I make a point of nodding, or raising the hand off the bar to all sorts of riders.

However, I've noticed a few things. The riders on most chop type or rat type bikes, wearing dark glasses and on occasion tassles, tend not to receipritate.

Harley riders, as above...

I ride an R1200RT, silver with whith Multitec, daily to work and back, touring in France and loads of IAM/Rospa work/riding.

If I wear a hi-viz jacket, with the above kit, I definatley get less response from my fellow motorcyclists, When I ride with no Hi-viz as if by magic I can be seen again, and I recieve acknowledgement.

The a chap I see often on my way to and from work.
Flat bars on a naked bike, black visor, flatley ignores me no matter what I wear, whether I nod or raise the hand. Must have seen him at least twice a month over the last two years. I keep on plugging away at him...that sounds wrong) I'll get a response one day. \v/
