Fast flashing left rear indicator

Post by Nookiebear »

Hi guys,
I tackled replacing the damaged left heated grip and the broken rear indicator brackets today. The last owner had decided instead of spending 6 quid on each side he/she would super glue the bracket to the indicator housing, which then necessitated buying two new housings. Luckily Sherlocks helped me out with secondhand ones 14 quid each, not bad in my books.
Anyway my issue is after putting it all back together my left rear indicator flashes very quickly. I have checked that the heated grip connector is connected the right way round, and also checked the bulbs are connected with the right wire going to each spade connector.
The only thing different is a new bulb in the left indicator which is orange instead of mirrored (the right side bulb is mirrored and original). The reason is the original left side bulb was broken and the new indicator housing came with this orange bulb inside.
So I am at a loss as to what is causing this fast flashing. Any ideas on what I should check?

Have you checked to see you if the front indicator bulb has gone on that side which could made the rear flash faster,
if that's ok try swapping the bulbs over at the rear to see if the flash rate moves with the bulb as they may
be a different wattage which could also change the flash rate.

Front indicator working ok, good idea swapping over to see if the right side changes, never occurred to me to try this lol. That would prove its the bulb.

If no joy,
Check make sure you have a good earth on that side as the wire or connection under the
seat may have been pulled out / damaged.

Just to let you know I have sorted the problem, the front indicator had packed up so was causing the problem. But on stripping the fairing off I found that the connector to the front indicator wasn't fully pushed in.
So moral of the story and now imprinted on my mind is to ensure that all connectors are fully inserted and check again before refitting any parts. So a simple fix but could of been averted.
