Collective opinion ?

the trip on my K12 speedo seems to be bust, first it started flicking between trip 1 and 2 and resetting itself. It's now stuck on trip 1 and doesn't appear to be registering mileage.
The BMW extended warranty says it covers
"Instruments
Failure of the following parts: speedometer, gear indicators, voltmeter, fuel gauge, temperature gauge,
tachometer and clock, but excluding accident damage."
So in the opinion of the collective is the trip part of the speedometer or a separate item
A bmw dealer in the US lists the speedo assy as one item at just under $1400, so I would like it to be a warranty item

A fairly robust argument for it being an integral part of the speedometer assembly.
The quote tells you what is excluded also. As the trip function is not excluded -that is also weight to the argument. The terms of the warranty were written by experts. They can't turn around and claim that it is ambiguous, or that something other than stated - was meant.
Warranty - definately.

Steve,
You know as well as I do--Selling you the policy " everything is covered sir" Claiming on the policy--"Sorry sir that is not covered"
Good Luck.

If not, it'll make up for it with the high speed grin factor! (When it does work!)

dealerships been in touch and they said it should be covered on the ext warranty ... woo hooo .... they're ordering the part in from Germany and have booked me in on the 22 december to see if a software flash fixes it or whether the console will have to be replaced ...... as the US sites list it at $1400 I'm really pleased ...... and sooooooo glad I have the extended warranty. If you think about the rear ESA at £1800 plus vat and the instruments at £900 plus vat add up to a huge £3250 with vat .... hell that's two F650 Funduros

or a reasonable R1100S just in two items

That`s good news for you. When all is said and done its only a mile counter, your sat nav does that. Would you buy a whole new assembly if you were not covered?
My bcr one works fine

I love the way it mechanically zeros from a little press.

I wouldn't ... but ... my ocd about things being "right" would drive me nuts
The navigator does a good job of working as a trip but I use it to record an entire journey, where trip 1 does per tank, trip 2 does per day (although it only goes to 999) and the satnav for the whole trip

Braved the foul weather and popped to Manchester to have new instrument console fitted, no problem with mileages misreading nowadays as the mileage is stored in the bikes central computer
