balance help
is there a standard answer to not being able to balance tb,s i have done valves, warmed engine followed a dozen different methods from different forums and manuals etc twinmax borrowed from friend(thanks john)but they wont balance over the whole rev range.i can set them on idle fine and at any other rpm i chose but as soon as you rev the engine they go out, have set them at 4000rpm as that is the one i notice most if sitting on m,way etc the rest of the time on smaller roads the revs are up and down and not held in one position too much,so vibes noticed but not horrid as at a constant 80 mph say.
Gatting throttles to balance
Steve - I know you reset the valve clearances - a must-do.
So might be worth first cleaning the cable pulleys on the inside face of each TB. Tease the cable out of the pulley groove, and run a clean rag or pipe (if you know a pipe smoker) cleaner in its place to get rid of the crap that causes the cables to jump. Recommend don't lubricate the pulley grooves, as sand and crap just builds up even more quickly.
Good luck!

I can't say i've ever strapped a vacuum gauge to the tank
but also check the cable junction under the tank , what mileage is on the bike ? if the throttle bodies are very worn they can be difficult to set up , and check the cables also. If the cables are ok make sure the outer part where it sits in the adjusters is lubed so that it doesn't rotate when adjusting.
Also check that the o rings on the airbox side of the intakes are ok , and the intake manifolds are ok .

ensure there's sufficient free play in the cables

thanks nab301 and slparry
have had little junction box out from under coils on steering head and looks like new inside, but admit the cables look vunerable to being hooked up as you replace the tank,so looked at a cable routing diagram from pelican site and seems all in order.i am guessing it may be worn cables as the bikes on 49,000 miles.each ride can be different sometimes in balance smoothish next all vibey.one thing i noticed from looking at cables on ebay and such is they all vary in length,do i need to remove the tank and measure them(bit of a pain)or are there just 2 sizes say and i need either the long or the short ones depending on age(1999).
intake manifolds look ok and o rings
with the twinmax on the tank you get diff readings as to when stationary in the garage, sort of real world readings, but you have to keep stopping and fiddling
thanks again steve
ps where do i get the natty bmw balance device on the rv4 youtube vid
