HP2 headlight Can it be switched off for track use?

Got a technical query? Found another 0.02bhp? Ask/tell the world.

HP2 headlight Can it be switched off for track use?

Post by Dog Tyred »

Is it possible to switch the head light off on an HP2 via a sequence of pressing buttons? Nothing in the OM but I seem to recall that the R12S light can be switched off via sequence of buttons and ingintion on and off??

Of course I may have just made that up??

assuming it's the same as my canbus equipped K12GT it's

press turn cancel button for 5 seconds
press right turn signal button for 5 seconds

-> head lamp will shut off

flash high beam or turn high beam on -> low beam goes on again.

That sort of info is generally regarded as a 'diagnostic feature' and normally not referred to in the user docs at all.

I served time repairing very large printing machines in the past and, like most electronic stuff, they are chock-full of vulcan-nerve-pinches/powerup modes/hidden menus/easter-eggs. I often wonder what you could do if you put the BMW systems programmers on the rack and 'forced' them to tell the truth. :P :P

I tried bribery with beer on the guy who designed the V10 M5 engine - did'nt work though and I never didnt find out how to fully disable the DTC.. Meh...

Neither in my K's owners manual, although it does tell you how to turn the parklight on by pressing the left ts just after the ignition's turned off

I didn't read the ADV thread but I think they might refer to this http://www.r1200gs.info/misc/tricks.html

Sorry if I'm not seeing the whole picture here .... can't you just pull the connector off?

If it's like the K you then get a bright light failure warning on the dash :)

I wouldn't put gaffa tape over a plastic lens cover with the lamp on - my mates Multistrada ended up with stress fractures and the old tape was a nightmare to remove.

You could pull the connector and put a bit of tape over the lamp fail light?

What track you doing Greg?

Exactly Steve!

Just thought if there is a way of switching it off rather than plug pulling or taping the lamp then why not use it?

Unfortunately having just been out in the man cave none of the above siggestions seem to work so may have to resort to pulling the plug afterall

Track day at Donny next Tuesday. Fingers crossed that the jetstream has pissed off by then

with a GS911 there's an option to turn off the lights, I'm really convinced there'll be a button combo like the other to do it.

Does the park light work as other models?

Aye, the parking light trick works.

Tried the head light thing again and actually switched the engine on this time  but the headlight popped on as soon as the engine was running.

will it turn off if you do the button pressing with the engine already running?
