Help me, I am being seduced

Background....

I have had a K bike (K1100RS and K100RS) for the past 6 years. Currently have a 1992 K100RS for 2-up duty.

Starting this year I added my 2004 R1100S BCR to the garage for solo fun. I have enjoyed the low rev torque and a bike that is about 100 pounds lighter.

Then I took the R bike to a local track day. TOO HEAVY! And I dislike the linked iABS braking system. Need to lose another 100 pounds- if it comes off me I will weigh about 70 pounds.

Next weekend I think I am going to test ride an S1000RR. If it feels as good as all the reports say, the BCR will have to go.

Oh nooooooooo!

Will let you all know how it goes.

Life is too short to NOT ride the bike of your dreams.

True! But it's a 'financial shortfall' issue I'm having to deal with during my waking hours buddy. If you decide to get one but are not buying new, make sure you do some research first. Trall the owners websights. I believe some of the early ones had some sort of problem with their crankshaft.

Thanks for the info.

Yes, I am aware of the conn rod problems that some S bikes had. Good bike but a badly programmed robot, I believe.

LocaL dealer was describing to me how these felt at a track day , seemed almost too easy

It is intoxicatingly easy:

"Mental" is another word that springs to mind. As do "bonkers" and "Hardcore". I'd never known accelleration like it - and I've had some fast stuff before - M3's and Monaro's and the like.

But I would take the same money and buy a HP2 sport. Not quite as "falling down a liftshaft" fast but not at all slow, and has that velvety smooth feeling like you are getting a 5star rubdown from a Chinchilla soaked in baby-oil.
The S1000 is epic. Truely, madly, deeply awe-inspiring. But it WILL bite you hard if you let it. You need to tame the bike.
The 2Sport is sublime and although less hardcore, it is more everything else. It feels like it'll still mis-behave enough to let you know you ask too much, but wont get all sulky and spitefull just at the wrong moment.

I've ridden them both in anger, currently have neither, but will buy them BOTH given the chance...

Try a Honda CBR 600 RR.

Im with the HP2 idea. It's a much more special bike, RRs are everywhere.

But if you just want a track monster, the RRs got to be the one.

The 600, a track monster?

That'd be S-RR, not CBR-RR..........

I was referring to the S-RR, but the CBR is another option. I rode a CBR 600RR round Donnington and it was rapid but controllable.

My mate has a new S1000RR - keeps dropping into a neutral when he's braking from 170mph on trackdays - not impressed.

Much as I've no doubt the S1000RR is an awesome machine, a couple of friends have owned them (one of whom is a regular trackday attendee and seriously quick - he used to race at National level in fact) and both of their bikes have had catastrophic engine failures.

If I was in the market for one of these (unlikely as it is) I'd buy one from those good people who've been producing this sort of stuff for years ie the Japanese, and of those I'd have the FireBlade.

I'd also agree with Damo's comment re the HP2 - it's something rather special. The 1000RR, whilst clearly a stunning bit of kit, is just litre-sportsbike-generic.

I'd probably look at buying an old GSXR1000 K0 as a track bike and keeping the 11S .... best of both worlds I'd think and probably less outlay financially
