Well I've gone and done it and now have a R1100S Sport parked in the garage.
It's a 2000 model with 31,000 on the clock. Extras that have been fitted by previous owners include full Vanderline stainless steel exhaust, comfort bars, tall screen, carbon fibre hugger, gel seat, BMW luggage and a Givi rack to mount a top box. Also included in the sale were the standard bars and screen and I got the dealer to put new tyres on too (included in the price) - a set of Maxxis.
Only ridden it home from the dealer but what a ride! Can really feel the torque and the steering is so much quicker compared to the V-Strom 650 that I have come from.
I have a feeling I'm really going to enjoy this bike.
