If I sold my 'Cup ...

Post by slparry »

Do you guys reckon I could find a reasonable 12S for say 1000 to 1500 more?

they seem to go for between 4k to 4.5k ..... and 12's seem to be between 5 to 6k hence why I'm thinking :)

Yeh, but you'd be selling an icon, to buy, well, just a motorbike [smilie=sofa.gif]

I know but I really fancy a 12S, of all the bikes I've ever owned the 'Cup has gotten under my skin deeper. Love it to bits. My K12GT is the opposite to the 'Cup, it's smooth, slick, brutally fast but just is a bit clinical. Sense would say to sell the GT and keep the 'Cup but having two sports boxers is a bit pointless.

With my current mix, I have a classic, a trail (ish), sports (ish) and a tourer .. so feel all the boxes are ticked :)

There was a good R1200s on Ebay a few weeks ago.

I got pissed, and put in a bid with Bidnapper. It appears I only lost the bike because my bid wasn't the full increment over the winning bid......................

Phew!

Think it went for £5,500

Al :)

For what my opinion is worth (not a lot some would say :D ), if it was me, i'd be keeping the Cup. As the others have said, the BCR an iconic bike and I think will hold it's value better in future years than a stock 12s. It's like the modern difference between a R90s and the R100s, both nice bikes, but I know that the 90s would still be top of my list.

Hmmmm...to be fair I think naming the BCR as 'iconic' is perhaps a little strong. Sure, it's a lovely looking bike (I owned one at the end of the day) and a very nice bit of R1100S history but it hardly moved the game on in terms of The Motorcycle. The R90/S is a different kettle of fish as it has a real racing pedigree in that it won the first AMA Superbike race at Daytona in 1976, for example and was definitely a 'performance' machine in it day.

I'd describe the following as (modern) icons...

'92 Honda Fireblade
Ducati 916
Honda RC30
Yamaha RD250/350LC

I'm perhaps being a little overly objective here but in terms of riding the 12S is in another league to the 11S - when I had my BCR I'd have swapped it for one in a heartbeat.

The BCR is desirable - undeniably, and that's why it commands good re-sale. But as an icon, not imho. :)

Yeah - the BCR is desirable only in as much as it is a "Limited Edition"-Type bike. (I know that they weren't "true" ltd edns)

I think that anyone who actually had the R1100s and the R1200s in their garage at the same time................

Would have the 1100 on a padock stand :?

That said - the BCR does what I want it to do.

Tis true for a BCR and a HP2 as well

Trouble is I can't bring myself to sell the BCR as it's part of the family and I love the look of it as well. TBH if I was going to sell one it would probably be the HP2

Me too, my use of the word icon and the sofa smilie were both meant to be a bit tongue in cheek, which I'm sure you know. That said, I wouldn't have looked twice at a 12S when I bought my 11S, didn't fancy them at all till I saw one in the metal at my first Boxertrix meet in Moffat ( it was Steve Boxered's to be precise). If ever there's a bike that looks better when you're stood alongside it than in any photo, it has to be a 12S.
