bottom shock bolt

can someone tell me a special way of getting the bottom shock bolt out, from the rear shock without having to remove the y-piece.

Its quite(!) heavy but I've tried up and down, as best I can on my own...

but it doesn't seem to clear.

I'm really just hopeful of a solution before I have to start shearing bolts!!

Easy, I did this just the other day - just remove the 4 bolts holding the y-piece to the headers, and swing the 'up' pipe back a tad. The cans, as they're hanging on rubber/silicon mountings, are able to move around enough to let the lower end of the pipe to move.

what size bolts do I need to by tomorrow????

Just go to your local BMW dealer and ask for some fresh ones from their cheese counter. While you're at it, get a couple of fresh gaskets too. You should get change from £50 :lol: Don't mention "Y pieces" - it just befuddles their factory trained brains. Tell them you need the bolts and gaskets between the headers and the cat. stick some copperslip or equivalent on the thread of the bolts before you insert them, so you have a fighting chance of getting them off again next time.

Which y-piece have you got? Is it the laser?

Paul - bolts and gaskets should be under a tenner, by the way :wink:
You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

John - another option is to remove the swing arm fixings to the CFrame and slide it backwards a tad - easier than dealing with sheared bolts! Don't slide it too far though

well I bit the bullet, and took a allen key to the bolts and.......... after four big CRACKS....... they all came loose. Mr Copperslip I love you!

I then got all worried about the brace thing that I had to animal in..... that you don't get anymore! but the pipe spun and the bolt came out..


So now I'm wilberstastic, but its dark, so I'll leave riding it till tomorrow.

I have bounced up and down on it!!!! Like this will show the suspension off.... but you have to do it!

Yes it is a laser by the way!
