He won't take less than 5k. He declined an offer of £4750 he said. I love the colour but that is the only thing that attracts me to it. There has been no servicing since 2010 that can be proven and he did one in 2012 himself. Nothing wrong with that but you won't get a premium for it when selling either. I would have to service it straight away too. The bike is also stock.

He says he doesn't know if that colour scheme was done at the factory or a dealer option. Could have been crashed too and the paint is average. Looks great in photos. He has a K1300r for sale too so he likes his BMW's.

I personally think it's worth 4,250-4,500 max.

The Colgate in Northampton you linked to on Gumtree looks pretty good. Comes with the panniers too which are worth a good few hundred. ABS and full history.

I would take a close look at that one. Not too far from me, I am more than happy to go and take a look if you want an independent opinion.

Hi Jim, thanks for the offer. Does a Colgate mean a red and silver stripe bike?

The bike sounds nice and pretty genuine too. It's up for £4,500 for a member here too. He said he was going to email me pics but I haven't got them back yet.

If he does send them to me Jim that would be great if it didn't put you out at all.

The 11S is a great looking bike and the BCR paint makes them look even better but it's a 17 year old design now and if you want a modern riding experience it has to be the 12. I miss the 11 but I'm very glad I got the 12.
The 12 a modern riding experience? moderner than the 11 I admit but lets not get carried away here

Modern in the sense that it's the post war rather than the pre war experience?

I had the modern experience riding the S1000r for the day. It was certainly an eye opener. That said, for most situations on the road, the 12 (or 11) with Telelever, better wind protection etc, is a more useful bike.

Colgate is the red and silver, same as mine.

I would say £4.5k with luggage is a fair price given what other bikes seem to be selling at. The bike is not far from me. I am sure the seller is genuine, but my offer stands, I am happy to drop by for a cuppa and a chat.

I will say, I am not a BMW expert, but I can give an honest appraisal of the general condition.

Totally agree with the above, if your gonna spend £5000 + you need to see it at least, I'd not buy without a demo ride, and don't believe a description either, a stunning bike that's never seen winter is frankly bollocks, the red/silver in Durham for example, picture 5 front of engine, paint flaking side of engine and barrels look mingin, and before anyone says they all do that I know cause mine has but Roloo's is in perfect order and I suspect if there was rain in the air that bike got vanned home.
...bike wouldn't have left home in the first place...
Have a nice day !

2007 Low milage, immaculate, 2" clean rubber on tyre sides, it's been babied...this'd be my choice with a hugger thrown in.
Big Tav wrote:This one is an absolute minter. Looks the best condition bike with only 9,000 miles. Has a Remus exhaust but needs a under belly cover. It is my second favourite colour scheme. Not a sport either so small wheel and no ohlins. Have to pay dealer prices I guess but you never know.

Will it be collectible with such low mileage?

R 1100s R1200s Collectable in about 30 years? How long you got left?

I am not a collector of bikes but I know someone who is and he is not looking at these models as an investment.

Hi Jim, the Gumtree bike is off the table. He is keeping it now. Thanks for the offer to check it out for me. It's most appreciated.

Still looking then! The boxer cup one still looks nice. I wonder how good that paint job is?

Do you want to buy it and keep it or possibly sell it - I personally don't think much about the BMW service history (unless it's a new bike - I get my Boxercup serviced by an independent and he does a better job than my local main dealer). As boxerscott said they aren't going to be worth fortunes in our lifetime. Remember, the 1100s was last made in 2005(?) and the 1200s in 2008 - not many, RoLoo's apart, are going to be immaculate

I want to buy it and intend to keep it for a fairly long time. I just need it to be good enough that if I don't get on with its quirks or my circumstances change I can move it on without losing a fortune.

I like the BCR colored 1200 but if I pay £5000+ for it I need to spend at least £2-300 on getting the serving up to date since the last proper one was 2010 even though it was only 1500 miles ago.

Then I'd need an exhaust then maybe get a rear shock upgrade. I'm 115kg.

Starting to become an expensive bike...

Home servicing these bikes is a piece of cake. Then you have the piece of mind of knowing it has been done properly.

Honestly, you need to go ride a boxer (if you haven't already) go get a test ride on a 1200R (it's about as close to an S as you'll get, unless you can find an S in a dealer) then decide if you want one. To say BMW twins are quirky is like saying an M1 MGP bike would make a good commuter.

I've owned them for the past 30 years and on odd occasions they still suprise me!

I went back to an 12S last year, paid €5k for it, but I've thrown lots of toys at it, header pipes, Zard silencer, etc, etc, the point for me is always make them 'mine' in some way, maybe I'm just odd, it's just the engine and the brand that's always done it for me. It's not a UJM, different, that's why I sold my GS when I came to live in Italy, everyone and his dog had one here and it waas just too mainstream a bike.

I think selling one is a bit of a challenge (my thoughts here) the person buying has REALLY got to want a 12S, not just a bike, or a BMW.

Having read a few posts here, you're standing on the edge of the pool, you've got to hold your breath and jump in, the waters fine, it's just not the water you may be used to! All meant to be helpful here fella...
