I agree. Waited an age for the 1200S to replace the 1100S and test rode the Boxer Cup and the 1200S one after the other. My mate hated the 1200S and said it had no low down but it was the throttle. Lower down the rev range you just opened it quicker than the 1100S and it really took off. The looks however are another matter!
Nice pic............... but could be improved with some "photoshopped" mountains in the backgroundRoLoo wrote:...I did a search ; and came up with this one...Blackal wrote: Do a search for RoLoos R1200s in red/silver stripes with matching belly pan - looks good.![]()

If I am ever on life support - Unplug me......
Then plug me back in..........
See if that works .....

I definately agree with the comments made so far, and that price is very good!
I owed a R1100S for 7 years and put 70,000 miles on it.
I've now got a 12S, and this is what I would look out for.
1. Go for Sports Package inc heated grips.
2. Rear hugger is essential. Don't worry about removing rear wheel to fit. It's easy.
3. Buy a decent rear wheel stand. Don't worry about front stand. Use a jack under the sump using something between to protect.
4. Bag that straps to rear seat is excellent. I couldn't live with the tankbag as it got in my way. (But I am a short ar@s
)
5. Like many european manufactorories water based paint is used. The only parts that seems to be affected are timing cover and forks. However, the rest of the bike seems well finished.
6. Put some miles on the thing! Problems often occur because bikes aren't used, IMHO.
Enjoy!

Aprilia a good thing but spare parts a bad thing (at least in Greece). Who exactly owns Aprilia?
R12S (got mine brand new - now 6K miles):
Pros: simple (well, you know...at least with modern standards), useful torque, Telelevel (break AND steer), brakes (ABS can be off), good real-life power, general set-up, dealer support/resale value, brand name, last standing hero.
Cons: vibrations (1923 designed engine), tractor gearbox ((better than other boxers), no rear hugger, nasty Ohlins-BMW deal (search the Ohlins sites for R12S > nothing), AWFUL ergos (a trad BMW stuff that one), 1st gear a bit long (town), not linear throttle kinematics, questionable build quality (see bolts on cam covers), CAN-bus (lot's of failures here in Greece), DEAD OEM battery (crap stuff), flimsy bodywork (panels).
All in all : best real-life sports bike around (viewed as a whole + long term).
Mods1 (power): HPE full system (NOTE: NO bellypan worth the name possible) + RapidBike3 + iridium sparks + filter = 128/129 rw ponies.
Mods2 (aesthetics): Hugger (Ilmberger), Cam covers (ditto), Motronic cable(s) covers (ditto), bellypan (ditto - but not OK with some pipes).
Mods3 (well...you know): WP (no emulsion types) = 2K (euros), Custom Ohlins (no emulsion types) = 3.5K (US dollars), Wilbers = 1.7K (euros).

Re: Test rode a R1200S today
Hi Andy - I'm only two months ahead of you. Always liked the R1200S, but I think they're overpriced at RRP. I found a pre-registered bike at the Motorrad East dealer in Dalkeith for about that money, so snapped it up.TUONOANDY wrote:John Clark BMW in Dundee are selling 2007 registered bikes (with zero miles) at between £7495 and £7995 depending on spec which seem a bargain.
A few weeks in & I'm loving it. The stock screen is okay, but Puig double-bubble arrived yesterday. I've also added a Ventura rack so I can get my laptop to the office & as above, the lack of a factory hugger is a criminal oversight.
Bike is more than fast enough for me on the road & a blast to ride either quick or slow. Very very pleased.

Sorry for delay in replying, Paul, I've been stuck in planes/airports.
I fitted Remus headers, very soon after getting the bike, so difficult to do a before/after comparison. But it did make it noticably crisper with the throttle response. I reckon the headers would make a big improvement to your 'flat' feeling.

In a fifty mile race I am the best, I ride five miles and skid the rest.
