Yeah..the first four items are kind of what I expected. Still like to find out for myself though. Must get down to a dealer one day and try one. The last three are sort of a given but you missed 'Will kill you'

Sorry for sounding dumb but was about to buy one of these and now im not sure what im buying!

My understanding was:

There is a R1100S

There is a R1100SS, Boxer Cup replica, Randy Mamola paintjob, 180 rear rim, updated suspension.

Is that right or is the Randy Mamola different to the SS??

The SS is a different bike, but only in terms of paint job and a few bits of carbon. The BCR has the same wide rim, same suspension etc etc

S - normal bike
SS - colloquial term for S + sport pack (suspension, steering damper, wide 180 5.5" rim)
BCR - Red, white and blue - carbon odds and sods (notably rocker covers)
BCR UK special edition, as above but with gorgeous union flag bellypan
BCR Randy Mammary - blue and white chequer

I think the later BCRs also come with a Lazer pipe out of the box.
They still have the cat though. And they really still need a chip.

I think.

I have a red "SS"
Normal paint, no carbon as standard.
But wide rear wheel.
Yellow-sprung longer Sport shocks.

The last model of BCR (Red/blue/white) comes with Lazer Exhaust.

I thought that the original R1100s only had 90 bhp, and it was the "ss" that had the 99bhp?

The original exhausts on the S look a bit "weedy" at the back, with their rivets and tin-can tailpipes.

The BCR is the one to go for (well..........what the feck do you expect me to say  )

Nope, every single 1100s has the same power output quoted i.e 98 bhp at crank and approx 90 at wheel ish

Ahh right well its the BCR's im looking at.

Is the BCR the only one with the Blue/white colour scheme? I don't want to buy a Blue/white online to find out its not a genuine BCR.

Whats the deal with the chip? what does it do?

Thanks for the response.

Rick.

The Mamola BCR is the Blue and white one. Mamola sticker on the side, carbon rocker cover covers, wider wheel, 180 tyre, yellow springs on suspension.
Ive seen one or two painted to look similar, but generally yes, there arent many of them about.

Take note of this. There are a few Mamola-painted SS models about. Some have been sold recently. Chances are that if the bike you are looking at has:

1) Genuine BCR carbon rocker covers, complete with different actual rocker castings, not just stock-on jobs

2) The Randy Mamola signature decal on the sides of the front fairing

It is a real one. Anything else you should be VERY suspicious of fake. Because the "special" edition BCRs fetch a lot more money, people are turning out fake Mamolas I reckon.

Are the covers themselves carbon then? How should the cover look?

Sorry to be a pain but i'm really glad ive found a busy forum. I've been reasearching for the last 3 days and found zip, Bikers oracle, a US forum, all dead, no posts or members!

Think i'll stick with this one, seem a knowlegable bunch. :D

There are lots of 3rd party carbon rocker covers. Only the genuine BMW ones use special mounts - and I think they should have titanium sliders moulded into them.

I'm not sure if the mamola replica has a special plaque or engraving or something? Other things to check if you're suspicious are that the bellypan is carbon / kevlar (look inside) - if it's fibreglass, then pay normal R1100S money not BCR prices.

Have a look on eBay at finished items. I have seen at least a couple of resprayed mamolas go recently. That's not to say they're all misrepresented / dodgy! A guy from this forum did a great job restoring a standard S with a mamola-esque paintjob and was up-front about it.

It does get confusing when you get into Boxer Cup Replika-replica territory though

My research seems to suggest that a standard R1100S Sport with a pipe, chip and performance air filter is as fast as a BCR. No "please steal me" paint though!
