Paul, My mate Rod has just bought an 800s and is coming off a gixxer thou.
They're a corking bike.
They handle rough roads and country brilliantly.
One of the reasons I didnt go for one is that I have a TRX 850, which in essence is very similar on concept and size etc.

Paul, you really have to go with your heart on this, I really,really wanted a bcr mamola rep, but I came across my red 'un at a great price, and even though it has the sport pack, which in essence makes it a bcr in all but name/colour/bellypan/white dials, I still wish I'd held out and found and paid the extra for what my heart desired instead of what my head/wallet insisted upon. I have so far resisted the temptation to part ex for a bcr, but the voices inside my head are getting louder all the time, .....must........resist......
it's great to hear that you'll still be allowed out on powered two wheels, any hope of you coming up to Hawes?

Thanks for the advice, but I feel that I'm being drawn towards the F800. At that price, I can't really lose. I working on the principal that it's better to ask forgiveness than permission...
Sadly, I won't be making it up to Hawes this time around. I hope you all enjoy the weekend though.

You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Hi.... It sounds like you have made up your mind... it certainly looks the part...BUT.? This is a new design for BMW (Rotax) and if it were a year on with all the bugs ironed out then it would be an easier decision. The belt drive is proven ..no problems there. Hope you enjoy whatever you end up with.. Stuart

I wouldn't worry too much about the motor...
1. Rotax designed and built(d) the Aprilia V60 Mille engine - it's been a bombproof design since day one
2. Also the F650 motor - another really solid piece of kit.
3. If the above doesn't convince you, you've got at least 18 months' factory warranty left.
I'd be more concerned about the bits BMW do ie the electrics and paint.

Just spoke to that nice Carole Nash lady about insuring an F800S. They will transfer the balance of my existing policy (which runs through to about June next year) for the princely sum of £21! It would be rude not to take them up on that kind offer, don't you think?

Not entirely, the belt on my CS picked up grit from road resurfacing and chewed up the rear sprocket/roller thingy. Although largely cosmetic it had to go in for replacement under warranty...The belt drive is proven

It's fast enough, fun enough, practical enough and a steal at £1800 off list price with 4k miles on it after 3 months. A change is as good as a rest, and it's an ill wind that gathers no moss

The deal is as good as done. I'm going for a test ride on the bike on Thursday morning first thing with my cheque book in my pocket. At least I'll have a cast iron excuse for being slower than everyone else now, rather than just being a cr*p rider. Now I'll be an underpowered cr*p rider

Personally, given my own mediocre skills, I reckon a really good rider could whoop and embarrass almost anyone on an 800S providing there weren't too many straights, and that is where the skill is I reckon. I was following a bloke on an RT the other day to work. I was on the fazer and I could only just keep up with the bloke down the Alton road which is very fast and swervy but flippin dangerous - he was (reletive to me) almost SUPERSONIC and completey and utterly fearless. It does my ego good sometimes to get completey stuffed by some old tosser on a shed - keeps your feet on the ground
