Yep, they're unique. I think the later units use a standard CF(?) type memory card but Garmin made their own for the earlier units

They are good, but I have updated to a 2610 as it seemed like a much better piece of kit.

You need an adaptor from Maplin to convert audio out to a standard ear peice, can the use any old head phone.

256 memory on e bay aprox £70 but can get most of englang from v7 software onto the 128 that comes with it

I use these headphones with my garmin. Expensive but they double up as earplugs, so saving hearing! The sound quality is also remarkable when usedin an ipod or whatever

Cheers for the head's up on that one... was trying to gather the pennies to buy one at £110 (the cheapest I could find elsewhere online)... £65 inc VAT and P&P on Ebay! The guy may call himself "crunch" and come from "metamonkey.com"... but I guess with a logon name like mine, who am I to judge?

OK so I got my SP3 today and what a suprise everything is brand new I think that Garmin must have had a shed load of SP3 bits so made a batch and sold them off as refurb models I am more than pleased.

Shame the software would not unlock though, but a 10 minute call to Garmin in the USA sorted that one out.

Am waiting for a cheapo earpiece to come in the post.

And have just about managed to programme a route to work for Thursday for a first try.

Then I will read the instructions on how to do it properly.

What was the solution to the unlock? I'm having the same problem

Go to garmin.com and download from there.

Or Phone Garmin in the USA and they will talk you through it takes about 10 Mins.

Ok folks can anybody who has or has had a Street Pilot 3 answer this one please.


I can select and download maps from Mapsource to the data card and when I put the card in thSP3 the SP3 can see the maps and I can use it to plot a route that works ok.

However when I plot a route or try to load the wayponts that Paul posted via my computer to the data card the card receives the data ok but the SP3 does not see the information.

Paul came round this morning and showed me how to do all of this and he also coild not figure it out we know that the card has the data because you can retreive it and save it back on the pc as a new file.

Any clues please.

.....and here's me thinking that GPS made one's life simpler

Err.. from recollection (I only had an SPIII for a few weeks) maps only are uploaded to the data card and routes, waypoints etc are uploaded to the GPS unit itself (using the serial data lead).

Rob or Chris should be able to confirm this.

Tried that and the serial lead does not do anything !

Also tried RTFM well Paul did and still no joy

Agree with the above, you can only download maps to the memory stick, you have to connect the SP3 to the seriel port to download way point and routes

Yep I also now agree

However when I connect the serial port connector my computer does not recognise the connection.
