Pray tell me which bike you have owned that you have put 160,000 miles on...Me my first BMW R800 owned for 11 years so with due respect piss off and lighten up we are both too old and experienced to get into a pissing contest.

I dont do many mile per year now only maybe 10,000, mainly mainland GB and over half of that is my daily commute.

Do not forget I have now owned both admittedly the GS for only a week

As for the age thing i ride a bike exactly the same as did when i was 19 and when the day comes i don't then i'll pack it up.


As for the rest of Europe with GS's christ you sound like my mother!!!! so long as everybody else is doing it!!! it's fine,never mind the rights and wrongs good and bad.

Gus, I feel I have just got to tell the world. It was either or both!! the titanium bolts on the rear disc ( the one sock benefit) or the superb SJ powerfilter addition that has given me this latest figure.
I went to the Ace today, as witnessed by the father of a lovely 20 month girl, and did a 162 mile trip, motorway and central London, via Aldgate and Kensal Rise, Wembley and Barnet, M25 back to retirementland, before the tank light came on!!!
That includes seeing off an XJ 4.2. - my fantasy car, and a steady three figure speed all the way in to the Black Prince 50 mph zone. Much more gentle on the way home, M25 and M2 etc. I will keep everyone posted of the continuing improvements that will get better fuel consumption results.

162 miles to the light? I must be doing something wrong; I'm getting 115-120 tops on a very good day.

I do often wonder as to whether the bike needs the Laser chip when running the pipe/snorkel/K&N etc - going back a bit to when I had my R1100R, I removed the catcode plug which got rid of the surging in one swoop (the 2.2 Motronic was dreadful for this) but made the motor run rich as a result. However, riding more gently (ie not ragging the knuts off it) the bike would achieve much better fuel consumption than when running in as-Greenpeace-intended mode.

Anything from approx 120 miles, which is about the best, to well, a lot lower.

BBpower chip/Lennies/Laser 2 pipe system/ filter/Fat B*d on board

100 miles for normal everyday use (4 mile congested commute)
About 120 for fast A road riding, winding it on to the stop in 6th frequently.
I get about 170 of relaxed motorway riding (85mph...ish) - though this is the only time I benefit from the fuel filler mod, I don't fill it that full for normal use as it'll overflow when parked.

I usually get 130 until the light when commuting; 124 if I've been giving it a bit of stick occasionally.

However, coming back from my France/Switzerland trip, Dover to Derby non-stop (well, once for fuel) at a steady 85mph indicated, I got 157 miles before the light.

Back to commuting last week (this week... well, that's in the other thread), and 130 miles to the light again.

Must be a temp/distance/constant throttle thing. I was getting good mileage out of it in France on hot days, too.

Oh, and that's with an apparent dragging rear brake, to boot.

Can get over 700miles out of a tank full of diesel in the Audi A6 2.7TDI. This has increased considerably since I went onto 9 points.
