(Suspected hole in right piston) Time to get the spanners out. I've drained the oil,.. and not much 'Chaff' at all,... but that might not be good either.
Rocker cover removed,... inspection seems to show 'Piston Crown' to looking as it should,.. no gaping hole.
I've oiled the various nuts/bolts/studds etc, .. so hopefully will get the Barrell off tomorrow without breaking the last remaining exhaust studd, ... and see the damage first hand.

Any last minute 'Cylinder Removal Tips' greatly apprecited. I'll keep you all posted, .... so that even if it 'pee's down' this Easter Weekend', .. you can still enjoy yourselves knowing that somebody is having even less fun than you.
Geoff

Oh,.. the bike has stood untouched since it 'Blew',.. outdoors etc., (2 Months Plus) yet Battrey is still fully charged, .... 'Bandit's just don't do that.

Cylinder should come off relatively easily, judicous use of rubber mallet will help in removal, but mine came off after 6 years without any problems other than one exhaust stud shearing. Drilled out, helicoiled and new studs all round, sorted.

keep us updated . . . . . . .

Good Luck

Good luck Geoff - the head should come off pretty easily - just don't dismantle the whole head trying to get it off as there are a lot of bolts there and most just hold the rockers etc on... I'm sure you can work out what you're doing anyway. I had a look in the garage and there are both barrels in there, and the pistons are just sitting attached to a partially dismantled engine. Hopefully we should have whatever technology you require to fix it at a bargain basement price  If you like you can come and collect on Monday from Southampton if I can be of any help. Hopefully it's just something small though... hopefully

Only problem I had that was the cam sprocket bolt had LOADS of loctite on it & this wasn't mentioned in manual. Undid no problems after heating.

Cable tie the timing chain to the sprocket otherwise it might fall down the engine. Also make a mark on the chain/sprocket relative positions incase they are separted.

Head gaskets are £20 per side.

Well,... defeated thus far by the wonders of rusted exhaust joint bolts. Downpipe to Y Piece, ........ 4 broken drill bits and 4 bleeding knuckls, ... I never said this would be a 'fast Process', ... but getting there. At least it's an area where I could apply a little violence, .. but the barrel will be off today (Read: This Week). Thanks for the tips guys.

Ah yes forgot about them, they were a friggin nightmare and I had to resort to the drill and cutter as well. If you've got a dremel or similar use a cutting disk and just take the heads off them. From memory it was bloody hard to get the drill angled for the inside bolts, hence the dremel.

Good luck !

That piece is a muck catching nut locking metal rotting NIGHTMARE. I got a dremmel and cut the nut heads off 2 of them then drilled them out and replaced them with nuts and bolts. B'STARD

Good Luck - BTW, if the exhaust is disconnected at the head end OK, why remove the exhaust? You'll be able to pull the head off with it like that I reckon.

Some photos showing here took when I removed my head last year to have a sheared exhaust stud machined out which might help.

BockingBandit wrote:My S was getting 'Lumpy',.. not revving much beyong 6K,.. then suddenly seemed to drop onto one pot, .. accomapnied by lots of smoke exiting from the exhausts. No nasty 'rattles' or 'grinding',.. and certainly didn't 'seize'. The bike will actually start but I had to get 'Recovered' to my home.
Please... any initial thoughts on most likely fault. I'm trying to convince myself that it wont have 'dumped a valve' or anything nasty like that.
Any help... much appreciated,.. but please remember that I'm a totally skint courier and try to temper any bad news with some easy fix solutions.

(Adding insult to injury,.. My Bandit decided not to start this morning.. so 2 broken bikes and no work)
Stumbled across this while doing a search. Did you ever get the s sorted. It wouldn't have been contaminated fuel (diesel) ?

Well,.. 6 months down the road,.. and loosing my Bandit has encouraged me to get the 'S' sorted, .. it's being collected sometime this week, .. so fingers crossed. I just can't stand riding this CBF600 (Hire-Bike) a moment longer,.. I've turned into my Dad, .. at least the 'quirks' of the Bandit made it slightly interesting, .. but this Honda is just on the 'Dullest Side of Dull'.

Methinks the Honda Corporation very often gets the idea of efficiency confused with our idea of boring :?

If it needs a piston and/or a bore then let me know as I have spares in the garage
