But I have now had test rides on the R1200RS, S1000XR, R1200GS and the R1200RT and I really surprised myself because of all of them I like the RT the most.
How bonkers is that for someone who spent his biking life with clip-ons and rearsets?

I nearly bought a new RS last year but then got the R1200S from Andy Griff.

Old age and decreptitude is taking its toll and I now want to enjoy riding without having to take painkillers every 3 hours so my hips, knees and back don't ruin the enjoyment.
Sit up and beg position with a huge touring fairing is the next thing I want to try - just to see if I can get on with it.
Damn whether its ugly or not - it might become a neccessity.
Funnily enough John my customer who recently bought a new R12RT off me to replace his ZZR1400 because he wanted to go touring with his wife and who begrudgingly bought it for that purpose saying he was going to miss the ZZR14 came in today and proclaimed it's the best bike he's ever had and that he was wrong to perceive it as a "slow" bike as he's spent the last month with a bike that is miles better handling than the ZZR14 was.

He's also got a trackbike S1000RR and has rated it as more fun that his trackbike too :D

Andy

The man hasn't changed, just got older, and I wasn't planning on selling the 12S just yet.

Glad to hear it. Looking good in the Welsh weekend pics.

John I used my BCR for 2 meets last year and for work along with the 12s then got the GS and didn't ride the other 2 for a couple of months - next time I took the 12 out I thought the footrests had been stolen!! they hadn't, they were just that high up!! After a couple of miles however, I loved the 12. Just about got my BCR sorted but I'm thinking it me be time to let it go. A lot to be said for sitting up!!

Will still keep the 12s tho - it's awesome!!

I think that is always a problem with the 1100s and the 1200s - there are differences, but possibly not enough to be a bit disappointed with the 1100s when you try it again.

I find the HP2s and the BCR are streets apart - to allow me to continue to enjoy a day out on the BCR (or even a wee jaunt to France for the week).

As to the RT - it's not for me (not old enough  ), but you can't ignore that it is probably the most accomplished tourer in the last decade at least.

Al

Al, I think you're right - I'll know whether it's a keeper when I next take it out. With the top box tho, it is perfect for work. Such a nice dilemma tho
