It's a good looking bike for sure (apart from the shonky exhaust

) - and would be stonking performance.

Worst of both worlds. Lumpy flat twin that has a car drive train and is inferior to chain drive on track, paired with an uncomfortable riding position and huge price tag. Not my favorite combination.
So its a poor road bike and a hugely expensive mediocre track bike....mmm
If you want a fast bike just buy a gsxr 1000/zx10/blade/r1

Mmmm.... not sure if the litre superbikes are really relevant for the roads today (or ever were)......
and pronouncing that the BMW has an "unconfortable riding position" appears to be a bit premature since the bike isn't in production, you haven't ridden it - and everyone's posture is different.
Mais - Vive la difference!

Just commenting from the picture provided for the riding position.
How is a 150 bhp boxer more relevant for the road than a 160bhp jap bike?
And any bike that can do more than 70 isn't relevant for roads then
I was more getting at it fills a very small niche and I think it's a bit daft.
Didn't the 1200 S sell less than the 1100 S ? If not I sit corrected.
Maybe the market for idiosyncratic 100 mile in a day toys is larger than I thought.
I do secretly want a MotoGuzzi MG01s so maybe that's the reason BMW will build this

The 1200S looks to be an uncomfortable riding position (IMHO) but I find it comfortable on the road - I also find my BCR comfortable as well. My VFR I find reasonably comfortable but it hurts my wrists more than both my BMWs. What I don't like is the buzzy 4 engine (it was after I got my 1200 that I decided to sell it). You said you were looking for an R1100S for longer journeys - why not a 4 instead of a lumpy twin? Not criticising but I don't think I will ever go back to a 4 cylinder regardless of the smoothness - I just prefer twins and if you can get a bit more stomp than I would rather have a sportier BMW twin than a Jap 4 - they just don't do it for me (have to admit tho that I've never ridden them all)

I have an r1100s and a GSXR 750. One road bike one track bike.
This super trick boxer with 150BHP and all the electronic gubbins is just not for me that's all. The new R1200RS is where in my mind I would draw the line and buy a flat twin.
But as mentioned. It takes all sorts.
It will be a lovely bike just it has a very narrow optimum operating window.

I really love it. Which is irrelevant because chances are i'd never be able to afford it or at least justify it. I'd really love an HP2 sport as well but that's never going to happen either.
