When the engine gets hot the electricity doesn't flow as well down the starter cables and give all the symptoms of a flat battery. As soon as it cools it starts as if there's nowt wrong.
I know cos it's one of the Big Book of Fixed Things that my KGT has had done to it. BMW will replace the loom FOC on request but never did a recall I think.
My mate had his K13R done for the same hassles too.
You know technology has disappeared up its own arse when your starter needs a loom! What's wrong with one wire in, one wire out?
Anyway, what's wrong with a kickstarter? It's not like we're a set o jessy's.
Hee Hee. Light the blue touch paper......

Steve, thanks for that, really useful info. Will be speaking to BMW when it goes in for it's next service.
I agree about the kickstarter. Would likely change my mind after trying to kick start the R12 and ending up in the neighbours garden but there must be a way to make one work.

btw I'd speak to BMW asap as it's a campaign and once the campaign ends it stops being free so it'd be better to get in soonest about it
as for kickstarters..... my GN400 had a kickstart and all of my bike mates had "lost" the knack of starting a big(ish) single. My daughter, Lianne, was 18 at the time and she is a bit bloody minded and once told that they'd all failed she was determined to "learn" the knack, and fair play to her she did it after 10 minutes or so of instruction and trial and error
