BTW, I always wave/nod at learners and ambulances. I'm a pragmatist so I recon, in the long run, we need both on our side.

I ride a GS and always either nod or flash the high beam. Rather be a Trixter than a Tosser any day. It's very very rare that I visit the 'other' site. I joined when I first got the GS but won't renew the subs for various reasons!!
Oh, and I don't wear a Ewan wannabe suit or have HUGE aluminium cases either

I've never been able to see any irony in that !
Having had GSs for the the last 10 years or so, pre "those" tv programs I can honestly say if I could find another bike that did what I ask of the GS ( potter around the UK for a week on all sorts of roads) as well as the GS does it I'd have one.
The bikes themselves are fantastic and nothing can touch them for all road touring, they're so polished, but I can't stand the weekend warrior culture thats grown up around them, I'd rather not be associated with it.

When I started this thread, I wasn't having a pop at the bikes , just the attitudes of some riders .

I love bikes , any thing 2 wheeled .

I also take exception to the strange blokes who slag off the Indian & Chinese bikes .

Hey man , if a guy likes his Indian made Royal Enfields, so what , he is out & about on 2 wheels , that's cool .

Same with the Chinese bikes, that some folk slag off so badly , there are more Chinese bikes being made daily than any other bikes .

The quality may not be up to German or Japanese standards, but I'm old enough to remember when the gangs of Hells Angels rode around Johannesburg shouting Jap Crap at any one riding non USA Brit or German bikes .....

Hmmm , well , the Jap Crap is certainly the best quality products in the world today & I'd guess within 10 years the Chinese will be right up there too .

If a man (or woman ) is out & about , even if its a bike below your perceived standard, welcome them.

Not every one is in a financial position to spend many thousands on a bike , so for them an option may be a Chinese, they have good warranty, they are very cheap , good deals , that's all cool .

Ja , I just wonder about the band of brotherhood that the true bikers are, is being diluted by very wealthy who see it as an image - being seen out there on a mega expensive bike , er , when the sun shines !!!

Hell man , it takes no effort to greet a fellow rider out there .

I also remember the days when Jap bikes were held in low regard. Can you believe that we thought that the Triumph Bonnoville was a superior bike!
We should all be happy that with the fact, that there are those who can afford new expensive bikes. After all, how else do you keep the secondhand market well stocked. One day their well spec'd low mileage bike, will be my proud ride.

My Bonneville is still the better bike, to me! It has character in bucket loads, always brings a big smile when I ride her and is part of my soul (I have owned her for 43 years). My Bonneville may not be seen as the best by modern values but some bikes have something intangible which cannot be quantified which I think is also why I love my R1100SS. If you enjoy what you ride, no matter what it is, that has to be great hasn't it?

Having just returned from Garmish I can honestly say that it is not easy to spot a German waving at you. They only lift their 4 fingers of the grip when going past. I think the Frenchies has got it spot on.
