Phoned the local stealers...
apparently they can't tell me what the latest map is - I have got to take the bike to them to have the computer tell em if its up to date or not.
Cost - quoted 90 of your earth pounds (worst case scenario they assure me!) for a two minute job.
Wouldn't mind so much if i knew whether it needed upgrading or not.
Will give Rainbow a ring when they open tmoz for second opinion.....that said. bikes running sweet so might just save me dosh - and If I'm shelling out that kind of money, may as well put it towards a full dyno job at Hilltop.

That is feckin cheek, it should be free as a favour to boost customer service rather than charging £90 to plug your bike into a computer and be left in the corner of the workshop to update.....it doesn't even need any technicians time.....

Bike booked in for dyno run at BSD on Saturday morning. Quick shifter is a giggle

Will post some pics of installation and results of dyno run. No boxerburners. Will have to do another dyno session after when I get them fitted.

Hilltop Remap

Decided to go for the remap option rather than pay BMW for a stock map.
After stumbling accross a 'group buy' thread on the GS forum I have tagged along with three other guys for the deed to be done on 11 August and saved £30 on the price. Theres two GS's, an RT and my 12S so quite a mixed bag. Will be interesting to see the various outcomes.
Geoff at Hilltop is getting quite iconic in the remapping of Boxer twins - hope the result is as good as all they hype I've read.
Will post the rsults up when I've had it done.

Bike went on the dyno this morning. B
It made 119 bhp and 81 ftlbs of torque at the rear wheel after mark had worked his magic touch . He overlayed my results with a HP2s he had dynoed which made 120 bhp and 82 ftlbs . The hp2 was stronger at the bottom end and slightly stronger at the top. It revs 500 rpm more than the 1200s. The 1200s was stronger in the midrange from 4500 to 6500. Overall there is very little difference between the 2 bikes. Throttle response and fuelling is now spot on. I am very happy with the results. I have also setup the quick shifter and I,m having lots of fun using it to the extreme!
I will get photos of the install for those who are interested.

Interesting comparison with the Hp2 , do you have the before figures ?

I've just read that thread on the GS forum, sounds interesting. I've had a fueling issue for the last 62,000 miles I've had my RT Dealer can't help.
Have been thinking about getting it tested on some rollers, Hilltop sounds like it could be the answer for me.
So what's the verdict?

No before run was done.
Be interesting to see what the boxerburners add. Maybe a bit of serious engine work in the winter.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. Hope you don't mind a couple of questions Gus.
Did BSD remove the lambda sensors when they did the dyno work? If they did, how did they 'remove' them?
K&N filter?
Did it adversely affect your 'touring' fuel consumption?
Did you ever fit the Boxer Burners - what do you think about them? I've tried to find a link/webpage for them but can't find one anywhere.
Cheers,
John

Hi john
I fitted the pc3 myself and removed the lambda sensors. They simply unplug from the loom. You can leave them in unplugged or take them out and replace with a blanking plug as I did.
I use a piper x airfilter.
No idea on fuel consumption. I just put more in when it runs out!!!
I have not fitted the boxerburner yet. I will fit when I strip the engine for new pistons and rods. Then it will go back to BSD for a dyno run. I might try a rexer. Remap and compare results as mark now does remapping.

That's what I thought initially. Most of the stuff on the net is on the German site and doesn't translate too well. As far as I can gather they're some form of intake tube, I think a bit like Lennies for a 1200.
Thanks Gus, great answers.
I like the casual passing remark about "new pistons and rods". It sounds like you've some serious plans for your bike.

Hi
Boxerburners are inlet tubes which replace the stock inlet tubes inside the air box. Thay are not the airbox duct, like a lennies. They require the airbox to be cut to size and then they are glued in place. Look where the throttle bodies rubber tubes join the airbox.
All the best

Got it!
