Best Y-piece?

Postby bmwonder » Fri Jun 18, 2004 10:39 am

What's the best exaust Y-section. I've heard things about having to lift the tank to get the extra wire for the O2 sensor with the Laser one. Really want to avaoid this if possible. What are the alternatives for an quick and easy cat replacement? What are the costs and the options? Thanks in advance.

Mark

PS planning to keep the standard cans at the moment.

Don't know about the best as I have only tried the Remus, but it is well made fit's nicely (apart from the rubber spacers) and was easy to install.

Toodle Pip !

Has anyone ordered direct from Zachs before? Do Motoworks sell them?

I went direct to Zach in Germany and saved a little over the Motorworks price, but you have to do all the money transfer nonsense and I'm not sure whether its worth the hassle.

Best Y piece ?

Postby bobbit » Fri Jun 18, 2004 5:26 pm

Mark

The advantage of the Zack Y pieces are that its in two sections which makes it easier to fit The Lamba probe is also in a
more sensible position which avoids re-routing and wires.
Hav'nt got a main stand so I can't help you there.

I have a Zach Y piece and a centre stand. I think the stand I bought came with some extra stops so it could be used with a Y piece. Fit is excellent. Start spraying your cat bolts with plus gas a little at a time a week or so beforre you try and remove them. Also get some new stainless ones as there is a fair chance of wrecking at least one of them.

BM...Firstly, you're gonna shear some of the bolts that hold the original Cat in place unless you're you're some kinda super human bolt extractor type person! Not a prob, just sheer them off - you dont need them anyway when you put a cat replacement pipe on, the threads are in the pipe. Secondly even with the Zachs, you're still going to have to let the wires to Lambda sensor go from under the seat. You need to do this so you can unscrew the sensor without twisting the wire too much. Again not a prob, coz you just need to cut the cable tie holding the cable to the frame beneath the tank and then unplug it...Easy.

Thirdly you may have to cut the pipe that goes into the back of the cans a bit to make sure they go completely onto the the two pegs undeneath..You'll know what I mean when you start doing it!

Fouthly the centre stand buffer.... I bolted a rubber bung to the torsion bar, it works a treat. If I think on tomorrow I'll put a photo on so you can see how I did it.

Fifthly - I just got in from a party and I'm a bit pissed so you'll have to forgive the ramblings I'm afraid......Tomorrow is another day

I didn't think I needed to either .......Until the the cans came away from the pegs underneath when I was out riding. I had to cut about 1" off the end of the pipe to get the cans to on far enough to locate them fully onto the pegs!

The little bit of plus gas every day or so for a week stopped me shearing any of my bolts and they all looked rusty as a rusty thing. Bailey saw them when I first got the bike and remarked that they looked ready to let go! I know its no big deal if you do snap them but if you dont then so much the better, you can reuse your cat without having to drill out the busted bolts.
