Tyres again (sorry!)

The BT010's the bike came with have just about had it. Would definately have some more if they lasted longer.
So its either 020's or roadtecs depending on price.
Anybody recommend suppliers/fitters in the Birmingham / SW Midlands area else it looks like a ride to Winchester or Reading?

I've just done a similar exercise but opted for a new 010 rear only as my current one is only half worn (but not quite enough left for the 2k around France :cry: )

Anyway, I reckon either the Z6 Roadtecs (good report from Stephen B) or the Pilot Roads (good report from Bailey).

Prices from Wheelfit up the road from me in Cambridge are £183.60 for Z6's and £207.79 for Pilot Roads (pairs fitted and balanced to loose wheels) - based on this I'd go for the Z6's

I'd go to Central Wheel at Coleshill.

A. Because i'm biased.

B Their in the realms price wise and easy to get to.

C Their only people i'd trust to put tyres on my Dymags.


If cost is an issue,i'd go 020 on the back and 010 on the front.

Do Micheldever have facitities to balance the rear, what with the small centre hole and all?

Off down there tomorrow for a new rear in advance of the Baltics trip.

I've mostly used B'stones in the past with the occasional pair of Michelins, tried the Z4's once and didn't liek the wet performance.

I've got a set of Roadtec Z6's on at the moment and they're very very good, in fact I'd say at the moment they're edging the 020's though I don't know how they'll last obviously.

It all comes down to your riding style really ( and your pockets ) I'm not banzai, so I go with a sport touring tyre, having said that I've had them edge to edge with no drama and they seem pretty good in the wet as well.

I'd certainly recommend trying the Z6's, fo rme they're very good, but they may not suit everyone.

Incidently Broidgestones do not recommend mixing 010 and 020, they say that the 020 front is a softer grippier compound than the rear anyway so that should be used. But if you like it go for it as if it's not dangerous and your prefer the handling of the mixes then hey, that's what counts !

Got a pair of Diablo Corsas from W.A.S Worcester the other day and went up to 180/55, never gonna get to the edge now, £220 fitted

On a 5" rim? possibly not a good idea.
Bailey has tried all sorts of combinations on his mega mileage S and declared the handling to be crap after fitting an oversize rear.

Don't buy Avons.

For some reason they work well on the Blade but are deadly on the S.

Just to prove it is all down to personal preference... I think my current Avon Azaro 3 SP AV49/50 are one of the best set of tyres I have ever ridden on.

I purchased them because they were cheap, £189 for two rears and one front. But they have proved to me not to believe all the rubbish written in bike magazines. But I guess we all know that anyway as we all own an S :P

Did 1500 miles on the Z6's on the FLASH tour - mostly caning the crap out of the bike. Very little sign of wear on the tyres.

Coming from 020's to the Z's I'd say the German hoops get the vote. I'd be interested in trying the Pilot Roads but with the Metzelers being so good I'm in no great hurry, not like I was when I had the 020's fitted. :)
