Re: Odd this...
My Rockster has started doing this. But it's got no correlation to throttle at all. It just flicks up and down at random when the engine is idling at a standstill.Darth_1100S wrote:.....Never noticed it before, but went out for a run to Southport today.....Not to Southport Superbikes coz they're shite- they're closed on Mondays anyway
....... When I started the bike up on the path this morning I blipped the throttle and the speedo went up to about 20mph and then back down to zero again.
As I say I've never noticed it do this before. It didn't do it when I tried it again later at the traffic lights.
Just curious - but does anyone elses 'S' do it![]()

The Service manager at my dealer looked blank when I told him about it, anyone know if BMW are aware of this??
the bikes only got 4200 miles on it so I'd be a little pissed off if it's wearing out wires ALREADY.

BMW spokesperson - "we work out our warranty costs on an average of 2500 miles p.a and on this basis your bike is now your own responsibility unless you took full advantage of our optional 7 year extended warranty which will cover you until Christmas at your current rate of useage"

I was VERY clear when buying the bike(s) that I do in excess of 30,000 per annum.

When I bought my bike ( privately ) I called the local dealer to enquire about extended warranty and was told that subject to an inspection and a service history that you could renew the warranty and that there was no mileage limit.
Wonder if I was being spun a line ???? Anyway didn't take it as I figured that anything that was likely to go would be not too difficult to replace and <hopefully
> not too expensive....
Anyone wants me I'll be in the garage swearing at the alarm and then fitting my new HID kit ....oooohhhhhhhh
Toodle pip

Going back to the original post, my RS done this, but only a couple of times, and only after I had the Laser chip first fitted. The engine 'spluttered' quite badly at the same time with rev counter sitting steady at about 3000. After that I carried the original chip in the 'boot' of the RS with the appropriate tools to fit. (something I miss with the zero underseat storage of the S)
NB Speedo on my RS is cable from front wheel.

update.
It died completely today!!

stopped in frustration and traced the route of the cable from the sender to the fuse box area where I realised I had something under the seat that was resting on the cable where it entered the fusebox (a small dig-cam). Took that out and it's been behaving fine.
I can only assume I've created a bad connection by having the camera sit against that cabling.

hmm - will look into it further when I have more time.
