The gear indicator on my R1200S seems to be 'out of sync' every now and then.
Meaning: it does indicate the wrong gear or even nothing at all. The engine refuses to start when it indicates anything else then Neutral.
Some hassling with the gear lever does give me a 'N' indication so I'm able to start the bike.
After going through 1-2-3th gear, the indication is correct.
Looks like the indicator switch has come loose in some way???
Any ideas on this one?

My RS has done the same thing. Blamed on the gear / neutral indicator switch sticking, handily located behind the rear transmission "they all do that sir". It's all sealed in apparently, so no amount of WD40 on the outside is going to help.
Workaround is to pull the clutch in when starting - reasonably possible without dislocating a finger. I'm investigating teflon gear oil additive to see whether that will ease it up; if not I'll either have to start spannering or save my pennies...

I read somewhere that the connector on the switch on the outside of the box can get corroded and cause this problem. pop it off if possible and clean up, coat with some electrical silicon type stuff to weather proof is the fix, or a new switch not to expensive I understand.
