Rear bulb blowing

Post by horse27 »

Is it just me ... ?

Gone through about 4 rear bulbs in as many months

Just the riding filament rather than the brake filament - all other bulbs OK

Vibes or voltage regulator? How can I check - I have a multimeter. Also have optimate cable fitted so can I just check voltage at that when the engine is running?

Cheers, Lee.

Probably vibes , My S goes through more rear bulbs than any of my other bikes (but not one a month....) If it was over voltage the bulb would usually be blackened , and headlight bulbs would blow as well.Try to use a quality replacement bulb(or at least vary the brand and you may find one that works for longer.
Someone mentioned bad earths and bulb failures , (Bailey?)

bulbs

Yeah, I went through a spate of blown bulbs, bought an LED one that never fitted properly , then went back to normal bulbs, had the same on for past 12 months! I put it down to the vibes. Ever looked at how the back end shakes on tick over, if that don't shake a bulb to bits nothing will!
I love my R1100S!

I had my rear light replaced recently by Jap & German for the MOT. I was told that the fittings corrode - mine was blowing the brake light repeatedly ...

Thanks chaps ... I actually have a spare light unit (off eBay) which I will get round to fitting. I got it because the plastic reflector where the lens screwed into had perished and only one screw actually does anything at the moment.

Any idea how easy it is to replace the rear unit?

I'll dig the Haynes out later.

Might as well get it done and see if it helps the situation with the bulbs as well.

Thanks for the advice - vibes and cheap bulbs I think.
